I think the value is fair but I do not think the flames can afford to give all that up for 2 players that would be tough to retain. I am not a fan of premium assets for rentals. This team is just starting to rebuild their asset base so if they are going to deplete some of those it needs to be a longer term move.

I don't know how to link it, but it was in the Athletic today.

you mean this quote by Salvian?

The Flames have the money to do it, too. According to CapFriendly, the team is projected to have around $5.29 million in cap space at the deadline to work with, and that’s with a 23-man roster.

not sure how its being calculated? prorated with the games remaining maybe? presumably this was fact checked.

There's rumours that Arizona is shopping Lawson Crouse. He's not the shiny prize that some other players would be, but Sutter would love him-he's big, tough, and physical but he also has some offensive skill, and moves quite well. He's just now coming into his own (17pts in 32 games), and could really be a boost to the smaller guys on the 2nd line, and would at least move Ritchie down the depth chart-where he should be. Only problem is that he's another left-shooting LW.

I like Crouse. He should never have gone so high in the 2015 draft but he's a useful player. Certainly much better than Ritchie.

Crouse is a heavy hitter with decent skill who’s finally putting it all together and becoming a decent top 6/middle 6 forward. We can definitely use him as he can be a younger replacement for Lucic with more scoring upside when Lucic is gone.
If we can somehow make a trade with Arizona to get both Chychrun & Crouse in the same deal, that would be solid.

Coyotes fans on HF were saying they want a 1st+prospect for Crouse which seems like a huge overpay but I don’t watch the Coyotes at all.

Crouse is not too 6 nor should ever be in the top 6. Guys an okay third liner. If you are targetting him , you are most likely overpaying.

Oh, then he is the perfect player for the Flames. He will fit in well with Lucic, Backlund, and Coleman. The GM can't get enough of intangibles on the team.

If we get him, I see it as apart of a bigger trade piece including a certain offensive D-man who might be on the trade block from Arizona

I don't think the Flames have the assets to get Chychrun. And Arizona doesn't need to trade him - he's signed to a beauty of a contract, so if someone doesn't meet their price - they wait until the off-season.
I suspect he doesn't get moved at all. They will get more during the summer.
I don't watch Arizona much at all - but his numbers are terrible this year too

Gostisbehere had a history of strong underlying numbers and can produce offensively.
Calgary traded a 3rd round pick for Nikita Zadarov.
Arizona received a 2nd, a 7th, and Shayne Gostisbehere for nothing.
That right there shows just how bad our GM/pro scouts are.

Ghost was a big liability for Philly - waived and taxied last year.
Maybe it’s Philly’s GM that is terrible.

Having that 4.5M cap hit complicating things next year and another body to block Kylington before the season started sure was a huge miss for the organization

…subtract Zadarov, add Gostisbehere, and there’s no difference in how Kylington earns his spot. Oh, and we’d have an additional 2nd, 3rd and 7th round pick to compensate for having to have an appropriately paid offensive defenceman on the books - which I don’t know if you’ve noticed, this team desperately needs as their defence is woeful when it comes to offensive production.

Than you must think the current coach is also terrible because I guarantee he wielded a lot of influence in getting a player like Zadorov for the style he wanted this team to play.

Yes, our current coach does have a history of terrible player acquisitions.
If Sutter was happy with the construction of his roster, would he be openly criticizing it as much as he has this year?

Completely different profile of player. Pretty disingenuous comparison in order to take a shot at the organization.
Ghost has more term and dollars on his deal. also worth acknowledging he couldn’t stay in the lineup in Philadelphia. But I suppose they are idiots over there as well. I’ll also go out on a limb and say Sutter had some input on how to shape the blueline and I would be a bit surprised if Ghost was on that list. How does his contract work with the other acquisitions? You’re apples to apples comparison is pretty flimsy.
Further, had the Flames gone out and acquired Ghost, where does that leave Kylington? Seems that is the far more apt comparison as it relates to the type of players they are.
Lastly, did the Flames have the cap space to absorb Ghost’s contract? The Flames and the Coyotes were in very different positions cap wise. If you think the Glames were just going to absorb the full hit.
