Markstrom has been trending down even when you take shot quality into account. If you look at goalies who've played over 10 games he is 12th in goals saved above expected per 60. He used to be top 5, so when taking shot quality into account he is still falling relative to other good goalies.

I feel like Markstrom performs best in blowout wins, not close games. His save percentage when within 1 goal is 16th in the league, again separating out goalies who've played less than ten games.

Vladar is the backup and played back to back after not playing much, so it's hard really rag on him.

I don't think the flames are good enough to win if they are getting goaltending that falls in the 12-16 range of the league.

Are there any other examples of teams going this road trip vs this trio of team, with a back to back to boot?

I'm fine with tonight's effort all things considered. Was far more upset with last 2 games.

Was fine with period 1 against FLA and TBL. Final 40 in both those games were unacceptable from an effort standpoint.

Was fine with our 5 on 5 game tonight overall.

The Flames' defense was definitely poor throughout those 3 games, but the goaltending was also horrible.

The goalies gave up 16 goals on 11.40 xGA.

Giving up an extra 5 goals than expected over 3 games is dreadful

We need to remember, every player on the team had Covid just a couple weeks ago. It has to have had some effect on some of them.

This thread is absolutely hilarious.
It is the same people repeating the same things they've been saying all night, and last night, and from 3 nights ago.
I get it, most of the comments are more or less true, but still, does anyone think that people aren't reading their posts?

Regional restrictions prevented me from being able to watch the last 3 games, so I'd much rather read discussion about specifics of the game than the same old tired complaining and prognostications of doom.

That's a pretty good reminder. They may have been gassed after the high tempo Florida game. Gaudreau, Tkachuk and Lindholm all well below their season averages in TOI tonight.

The positive from this trip is that these three teams don't play in the west. That's all I've got.

I think Vegas is a tough out, but still more beatable than any of these three clubs who are a nightmare at home.

Good luck, Leafs.

Well for starters, Elias Lindholm could start shooting the puck again.

Pretty sure Tkachuk and Gaudreau have logged significantly more shots than Elias.

Not even mad.

Also, Sutter confirming Markstrom not 100%:

I don't think Michael Stone is the answer.

They just don’t have the horses. Sutter mixed them up to see what he gets but they are way over matched
I’ll make sure to mention it to my doc.

So next game isn’t for at least six days? How does one adjust to three games in four nights, then a six day pause? The flames aren’t the only team going through this, but what a messed up NHL season.

6 days off? Perfect time to bring in a top 6 player and get a few practices under their belt.

Bet you the lineup will be the exact same against Ottawa, save for a Richardson/Ruzicka swap.

That's why it was good to win all these games early on in the season, You knew these losses and slumps would come as well especially against the top teams and when you play them consecutively as well. It's probably not as bad as it seems although it shows the Flames could add a couple better players.

I was okay with the line shuffling today but it shows that Sutter was right all along when he went back to Gaudreau, Lindholm and Tkachuk in the third. Although Tkachuk still played well and got a goal with Coleman scoring as well.

We're also coming up to the halfway point of the season and that's when things are getting tougher and the good players are hitting their stride more. That's why we're seeing a bit of a drop off from Mangiapane. He's still playing hard but everyone else is too. He's scored 2 goals in the last 10 games and Tkachuk and Gaudreau now with 15 each on the season and will probably pass him here soon.

I think we'll see some adjustments and possible trade but the Flames will bounce back from these 3 games.

Well that sucked, but not expected. It's unusual to play 3 games in 4 nights all against 3 powerhouse Stanley Cup contenders. Just glad that part of the schedule is done.

These types of things happen during the season and is why you need to build up a cushion and win the games against teams below you.

Flames are definitely a couple steps down from the elite.

If Treliving doesn't make a couple major moves to help upfront, he can #### off

Hard to make major moves when you have zero cap room. It means you need to give up valuable assets to obtain the major moves, plus likely give up valuable assets to have someone take your dead weight cap.
