I clicked on that thinking 'funny shirts' and it's all confederate paraphernalia. Looking forward to the weird algorithms I'll be experiencing shortly.

The “don’t apologize for being white” is the chef’s kiss of cringe. I didn’t delve deeper. What horrible people must run that store.

I actually had to read it twice to see that he was in fact calling his own cooking, perfection.

Twice even.

That reminded me of a neighbor I met once. They just moved in and my buddy and I went over and introduced ourselves. He kept cracking these cringy jokes and snappy comebacks. My buddy being polite told him he was a funny guy. His response was "yeah I'm a quick wit".

As we walked away. my buddy whispered to me how that's not a term you often hear people use to describe themselves.

Kind of like how most people don't talk about their own cooking being perfect.

But isn't beef wellington a bit difficult to make, plus that poster was making it for his family at Christmas so I didn't see anything wrong with their comments.

Usually we take it down in the evening on Boxing Day. This year, we waited and didn't pull it down until last night. I wanted it cleaned up before NYs at the very least. It's very rare that we've ever gone into the NY with decorations still up, might have happened twice in the last 31 years.

I also made beef wellington for Christmas (eve), except this year did individual servings. It's not so much difficult as just a process... It wasn't my decision and I much prefer the prime rib roast we did last year (much more "set it and forget it").

FWIW, my beef wellington was also perfectly perfect. Every. Single. Individual. One... Perfect.

Calling your own cooking perfection and high end restaurant quality opens you up to some ribbing and I’m sure the OP knows that. I doubt they were sitting at the table talking about how perfect their cooking was.

I think the criticism is off the mark here.

If the poster were saying that his cooking IS perfection (i.e. all the time), that is bragging.

But saying that they put in all this effort for a special dish and that it turned out to be perfection, is simply enjoying the moment.

We don't have to criticize everyone for everything.

Calling it criticism is a little much IMO. I saw it more as needling but whatever. Your choice of words will certainly get you different reactions.

I made Beef Wellington last night and it turned out fantastic, everyone really enjoyed it.

I made Beef Wellington last night and it was perfect. High end restaurant quality, absolute perfection.

One sounds a little more modest than the other doesn’t it?

With only the words on a computer screen to go by, there isn't a lot there to judge. I mean, knock yourself out, but criticizing the poster is a bit unjustified, IMO.

Ours usually comes down sometime over the 28-30th period. But it goes up the weekend after Remembrance Day, so it gets a good run.

Tree and inside decorations go up ~ December 1 and generally come down in early January. Partly due to us rarely being home the week after Christmas and partly due to it just not feeling right to take them down so early. Neither my wife or I are Ukrainian but grew up in a small town with a larger Ukrainian presence where Christmas/New Year was stretched into January and we're just used to seeing Christmas decorations up well into January. This year it also just doesn't feel right to take them down with half the house in isolation and miss it.

Took mine down the morning of the 26th. My favourite part of Christmas is getting the house back to normal. Fataing hate the clutter. I wanted to take everything down on Christmas day before bed but got outvoted.
