Default World Juniors cancelled

Hopefully it gets rescheduled for the summer because it's a shame that these young kids are missing out on what is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for most of them because of horrible planning and dumb protocols.

I'm not sure the NFL deserves any praise. At minimum three teams with playoff hopes got screwed because their QBs tested positive and they had to play people who they'd not very normally play.

So kudos for playing the games but it'd be like continuing this tournament but forcing the US to use some random AAA goalie in the area because their goalie tested positive. So yeah... You played the games, but screwed over a bunch of teams to do it.

Unless all these cases were asymptomatic, I'm not sure there's anywhere that would let symptomatic players keep playing.

Reservations for the Cambridge Red Deer Hotel have been closed for some time now. But it also functions as a conference center and the deal was to honor longstanding bookings.

By honoring these commitments, they've exposed the teams to dozens (if not more) of people, including a wedding reception.

Letting the virus run wild could allow it to mutate into one that is as infectious as omicron but with significant more lethality and vaccine resistance. Then every old person in Florida will no longer be living life.

Well, I'm so glad we have your opinion as a professional epidemiologist, as opposed to more of the constant fearmongering that we've been subjected to for two years.

Florida is down to averaging 2 deaths per day! They've accomplished this by no longer counting deaths reported after the day it happened (Deaths are almost never reported the same day). I'm sure they could arrange for no COVID cases for a 2 week tournament.

It's not like these people are in the same hotel room as others. You can avoid these other people if you want. Seems like a weird excuse. I live in a condo building and can manage to keep distance from people if I need to. I might have to wait for the next elevator or take the stairs but it's not that difficult.

Without more information, canceling seems like overkill.

You have 4 total players test positive, so cancel the entire tournament?

Seems like so many potential solutions to this problem. Totally bizarre to me unless there’s something we don’t know. Weren’t the positive players then isolating effective immediately? I don’t even get the need to forfeit games if these players are rapid testing negative the day of a game, even if a teammate tests positive and has to be removed from said game.

These are 18 year old kids. Missing 1 to even 3-4 players should not be a deal breaker as running 7 F or 5 D is not a big deal is it?

I really find this quite over the top at this stage, especially with what we know what Omicron today. Just a very strange reaction to 4 players testing positive.

I’m surprised TSN didn’t make them put it off at least until tonight.

It was a goalie for the US. And he was rooming with a other goalie. That is where you run into trouble. And probably easier to cancel now then keep picking up cases and having forfeits all over the place.

But don’t they have 3 goalies? Can’t a D slap on the pads in an emergency situation?

Again, that doesn’t seem valid enough to cancel the entire tournament.

Yea 1 or 2 forfeits is fine but when it starts dictating the outcome of the tournament it really defeats the purpose. Feel bad for the families and the kids who travelled all that way for a disappointing outcome I’m sure all would agree was unwanted. Not sure why they didn’t duplicate the bubble format and at this point seems like a regrettable decision not to.
