As it should have been. I get money is king, but there is no way they should have attempted this tournament under current conditions.

All the players are fully vaccinated, the vaccine is clearly doing a great job of limiting/eliminating covid effects, and they're following protocols (although the IIHF protocols were pretty garbage to be fair).
Yet the tournament is still cancelled over a handful of positive cases.

Like Adam Silver said a couple weeks ago, covid is never going away. Makes no sense to continue shutting sports/businesses down. Gotta learn to live with it. I have read of very few, if any players who've suffered severe symptoms this season unlike last season. Seems everyone is either asymptomatic or experiencing incredibly minor symptoms.

My sister and dad are both currently positive for covid and they're basically just normal healthy people being forced to stay inside, despite the vaccinations clearly working for them.

Just stop testing asymptomatic players across all leagues.

This really was inevitable with how poorly planned the whole thing was.

Option A: Covid is a major threat, and a few cases will cancel the tournament, so everyone should be in a bubble the whole time.

Option B: Covid isn't a major threat, and we can keep playing despite some positive tests.

Instead they chose the worst-of-both-worlds middle ground. Super unfortunate timing with Omicron changing the risk profile dramatically, but the science not being settled enough to bank on that. But it's not like Omicron is a surprise any more, so it's a huge failure to not account for it and adjust the protocols in one direction or the other.
