Can someone explain the cross-boarder thing me? I am genuinely asking. What is the difference in flying Vancouver to Seattle vs Vancouver to Calgary. These imaginary man made borders don't stop COVID

Yup. A friend of mine just learned that her son in NYC tested positive and won’t be able to come home for Xmas. He found out from his pre-flight test. That sucks and the players don’t want it to happen to them.

It is about being stuck in another country in quarantine away from your family during Christmas because you tested positive for COVID.
They are not going to risk it.

How come you're suddenly OK with crawling out of the condom you've been living inside for the past two years?

Except it (the people sick from covid) overwhelmed the hospital system and that's the problem. If more people had chosen not to get vaccinated than where would be now?

Pretty sure the Oilers saw the back-to-back on the road scheduled and complained to the league... did you actually think that was going to be allowed to happen?

I guess the point of the question is why are there testing and quarantine rules when traveling from Seattle to Vancouver but not from Montreal to Calgary for example. The existence and spread of the virus vary by community. As do the restrictions imposed by local governments.
To your point it’s the government imposed quarantine rules that make cross border travel different, not the risk per se.

Apparently Jesse Puljujarvi is stuck in Seattle and can't return to Edmonton on the charter with his team mates.

As for Puljujarvi, he can’t fly home on the Oilers charter now that he’s tested positive. We asked a team exec after the first period how the big Finn would get home to Edmonton. “We’re working on that,” came the reply.

Ok after the Jesse P thing I’m starting to get a little concerned.. my kids are vaccinated and we were going to cross the border for Christmas to visit my sister in Vancouver for the first time in 2 years for 4 days. What if we go there and then get a COVID positive test before we get back? Maybe it doesn’t matter if we just don’t take a test before we come back? I’m not super clear on the border rules. I know we need to have a negative covid test before we go..

I don’t believe you can come back WITHOUT a negative test. You better do some research in this before blindly heading off on a trip.

Well to fly across the border you need a negative test each way right now. You might want to research the rules before crossing the border.

Well, I needed a clear test both going to and coming from the US 3 weeks ago.
ETA: I guess you might be driving, so I don’t know those rules.

So you're saying it's frustrating when something happens that could easily be avoided if people would just act better?

Yes but they haven't completed all the sections yet including the one that teaches the phrase "never lick your own boogers".

I think the rules now are that you need a test before returning. However, I'm not travelling, so haven't been paying close attention.
That reason is a good part of why I'm not travelling anytime soon. If you don't have the time / money to spend two weeks quarantining wherever you go, you should not go, IMO.
