A note acknowledging the well wishes he has received. Also a note about the team being 100% vaccinated, with some, including himself, having already gotten the booster shot as well.

Damn it! I got tickets to the Seattle game off Vivid Seats on the 23rd... Hoping they're allowed to play and I can attend.

Timing wise the NHL is kinda lucky. They can consider an earlier Xmas shut down and get back on track by not going to the Olympics.
Of course it calls into question the entire season if they can't control the spread, but that was always going to be a risk. This is an easier time to take a pause if they need to.

I should preface this by saying I am 100% in favour of booster shots but in no way does Lucic, a healthy young adult who is not immunocompromised qualify for a booster dose under Alberta guidelines. I don't know if that is where negative comments could come from and why it may have been deleted.
Admittedly he likely received one in the United States at some point in the season so that wouldn't apply.

Actually he could if he has an AZ/ Pfizer mix. Those of us who are mixed doses were eligible for a second Pfizer for travel purposes in October,. not sure if that has since changed since US is now recognizing the mixture as fully vaxed.

Probably why the tweet was deleted. And as mentioned above, he could have had mixed doses.

The Olympic break definitely helps but rescheduling could be tricky in arenas that have NBA teams as well as ones like MSG that are always booked with other entertainment. You could see a lot of cross continent flights for one or two road games. It is starting to feel like this could be the last night of games for the holidays.

I suggest the mods change the thread title, something along the lines of

Lucic lives most of the off-season in LA I believe and a lot of athlete players only had the J&J single shot. The booster could just be a 2nd shot that someone can get very very easily.
A lot of players aren't just going by AHS guidelines as their work and life schedules are different than where they may play their sport how many games a year.

I think the issue here is that it is perceived queue jumping for those entitled millionaire athletes, while the rest of us schleps have to wait. This is most likely not the case , as someone mentioned they could have gotten the Booster shot in the USA and was not a case of queue jumping back here in Alberta. There was a hullaballo a few years back when the Flames got the H1N1 shot before anyone else.

My understanding is that the tickets are simply valid for the rescheduled game- so it would be up to you to sell these ones if you need to find a different game to attend. The good thing with the Toronto game is that it's one of the easiest games to re-sell.

What do we even do with 9 players out.
You have to play a game shorthanded before you can even bring in league minimum emergency recalls.

They really need to just use the former Olympic break for rescheduled games and focus on getting through the season.
Go Spengler team Canada again.
China doesn't deserve the top talent anyways.

I don’t understand why the NHL can’t see the writing on the wall here. All sports will be shut down within the week - hell, we’re probably not far from another full lockdown. Why try to eke out another couple of games and put players, fans, and their loved ones in jeopardy for a season that will be cancelled?

That's not going to happen. The difference is Vaccines stopping poor outcomes. At most we get a 2-3 week pause.

I think you need to take a walk and settle yourself down. Unless the scales completely go off in the next 10 days and hospitalizations start going through the roof, there is no need for this or need to insinuate as such by anyone.
Vaccines are still doing their job - the vast majority of cases in vaccinated individuals are mild or asymptomatic. Nothing to see here. Move along.

The league won't shut down as long as there are fans showing up to the games. They can't afford another revenue "pause."
However, I wonder how long it will be until certain provinces start enforcing capacity limitations at public events (like NHL games) again? I suspect Ontario and Quebec will reach that point soon.

I think we have enough going on with degenerate scumbags who don't want to take a shot that is now widely available that we don't need to be piling on a guy who has done the right thing.
Who cares what his circumstances are. Frankly it is nobody else's business in this situation.

Thats not happening. Those infections will still be like 98% asymptomatic thanks to vaccines.
Just a matter of taking a pause to let the wave die out and restart things after that's accomplished.
They're just going to need to triple their efforts to keep players safe and protected. Everybody was getting a bit casual about all that in the early goings. Lots of coaches/staff pulling down their masks on the bench, etc.

Ugh. We need to start living with this at some point so why even explore that option? AB has not had a serious spike in months and all the while having 2 arenas at full capacity - fear mongering that this is somehow now a major concern is baseless until proven wrong.
If severe outcomes are not becoming apparent as they previously were in past waves, you need to continue promoting booster doses and continue to enforce masking and keeping the unvaxxed locked down. It is amusing that when this was Alberta's fate a few months ago there was no end to the criticism in the media, but now that Ont/Que are blowing up it's all crickets?
