Flames really need two more forwards to be a serious contender. Maybe Pelletier can be the second but they need a scoring threat or playmaker first to play on second line.

I just don't see the Flames trading for a rental. Also don't see them trading for any term until some team contract issues get resolved. Guess we could aquire someone on an ELC but not many top 6 forwards on ELC are going to be available imo. Maybe we can get a puck moving Dman at some point .

There's a site that often comes across my instagram feed called "NHL Trade Rumors" that said a few weeks ago that Calgary has held preliminary talks with Seattle to bring Gio back for the playoffs. Now obviously, these guys have no credibility (that I know of), but I could see this happening before the deadline...
Tre and Sutter love this guy.

Isn't NHL trade rumors Eklunds brain child? Not to crap on your post, but if it is Eklund, it's 100% speculation

Oh yeah, no doubt it's just speculation, but I could see it happening at the deadline.

Looks to be someone else. Someone named Stanley Sweeney.
Eklund has (or had) HockeyBuzz. Is that still around?

Connor Brown makes a lot of sense to me. Rightwing that shoots right.
Signed for one more year after this one. On a very digestible cap ( $3,600,000), especially if some is retained. We'll need cheap middle 6 players next year.
Has proven chemistry with Mangiapane, whom he's most likely to line with.

For players 22 and under in the KHL, Vitaly Kravtsov is 2nd in PPG with 0.69 (9pts in 13 games). Just sayin'....

Flames traded for him once already until Kadri shut it down, not the worst idea

Using our remaining cap soace to require gio would be a mistake. Plain and simple.

So far people are targeting teams that are still solidly in the hunt, and players that teams in the hunt are unlikely to move. Start looking at the teams that are out of it or are very likely to fall out of the race. I don't see Nashville or San Jose as those teams. Think Arizona, Seattle, Chicago, Montreal, Ottawa, and Buffalo.
From Arizona, Kessel and Dzingel could be good additions. Kessel is still a great finisher, just playing with very little talent to get him the puck and Dzingel has always seemed to be a pretty clutch guy.
From Seattle, Eberle is a good fit from the offensive perspective. I don't think the Islanders knew how much they would miss his contributions.
From Montreal, I'm going the unpopular route. Toffoli and Anderson have been talked about, but I'm looking at Mike Hoffman as a player that could really be successful with this club. Another guy that just seems to put the puck in the net.
Ottawa is a team with few players that make sense. Connor Brown is probably the best player that would be available. I think we've been down this road before and it just never seems to materialize.
From Buffalo, Olofsson seems like a good player, but would the Sabres give up on him without it costing more than the Flames should be coughing up? Don't see a deal there.
Chicago is a wasteland. The only guys that could help have prohibitive cap hits. Don't see much there either.
There isn't a lot out there, but I think there are some targets that could help. Tre needs to move early IMO, or puts the good start at risk.

Kane @20% retained for Monahan, Pitlick, 1st and 2nd that becomes a 1st if Calgary wins the cup. Throw in Vali if you have to.
Instant favorite...

I wouldn't make that deal. The Flames would still be far from a favorite to win the cup. Solidify their playoff position? Yes. A Stanley Cup favorite? No. Not with center depth that relies on Lindholm, Backlund, Dube, and Richardson. Long-term, that's a massive gamble that is likely to blow up in the face of the team. $8.4M for Kane means you are screwed when it comes to trying to keep Tkachuk, Gaudreau, and Mangiapane on the roster. And then you've given away five assets for a player that will be around maybe one and a half seasons. Flames need some help up front, but they need to find a body that will cost no more than $5M with term, or is a UFA at then end of the season.

I would add Nick Schmaltz to the list. RHS top 6 F/C who can play at both ends. 25 years old with term. He’s solid, albeit not flashy.
