The Flyers are not parting with Giroux.

It might be brain fog but didn't giroux come out and say at the start of the season thats he's playing the whole year with the flyers? I'm pretty sure he did but I might've misread it.

Funny, during the first intermission, they asked Hrudey what the Flames need going forward, and he said that Hertl is a name that's been identified in the organization as someone they should zero in on....

I agree that we should but with some precaution.

Hertl has had some major surgeries, it doesn't look like it is effecting him too badly but his speed has dropped quite a bit in the past few years.

I am not sure how comfortable I would be in signing him long term to big bucks. That being said in the short term he would.be a great 2C for us. Lindholm, Hertl, and Backlund make a very good trio of centers.

To be clear, I believe Hrudey said Hertl's name has been mentioned on the Fan960, not that he's heard anything coming from the team itself.

Thanks for pointing this out. Hrudey did not say it came from the organization, he did say it has been discussed on ‘Calgary radio’ recently.

It is a bit nitpicky but I think it is worth pointing out where these topics originate from so people can correctly assess their credibility. For me, this is just speculation at the moment.

Was listening to a Flyers analyst on the radio the other day, and he suggested they should trade him.
Not sure if the management is on that page too but it sounds like there's talk of it around Philly media at least.

It makes a lot of sense since they need a bit of a rebuild and they could still get a good return for him.

I think Philly media has been saying this for years now.

I decided to write a few words on the Flames' need for finishing talent:

Great write up, Scorp. I agree that we need to give Pelletier a shot. Reward him for his outstanding play. He is tied for 2nd in points in the AHL. You never know what you've got in him until he gets a shot during some regular season games. This is the first thing we should do before looking for external help.

Just leave him down there and let him continue to dominate. As much as I love our first line, Chucky has to move down to play with Backlund and Coleman and Eatbread has to move up to play with Johnny or Best solution go give our team a actual RW/RHS Shooting Threat.

How many of those are there right now though? It sure looks like a seller's market right now with very few names out there that would really help Calgary. Doesn't help either that Calgary doesn't exactly have much cap space to work with. Our 2nd and 3rd line need to pick up the scoring.

Filip Forsberg

Gaudreau - Lindholm - Forsberg
Tkachuk - Backlund - Mangiapane

Not technically a RW but I'm sure he can play there

My apologies-the way I worded it is very misleading. I just wanted to point out that it’s not so ridiculous to be talking about Hertl, as his name is being brought up by members of the media.

I've been thinking about the cap mechanics of a Evander Kane trade. At the last Barracuda game, six teams were there to scout.

San Jose has stated that they are willing to eat 50% of the contract. If a second team is used to take 50% of what is left (1.47M) then that leaves Kane at 1.47M on the active roster. That is realistically not much of a risk, as a team can simply unload Kane to a European league on loan for the remainder of the contract, or look for another landing spot at that low figure.

The return would not be much. I think that he goes East. But to put this in terms of Calgary Flames value, it would be be akin to trading Tyler Pitlick to San Jose, and the rights to Jeremy Poirier + mid/late pick to a third team.

Some team will do it. I'm curious if there is anyone in the Calgary fanbase who would feel that Kane is capable of rehabilitation now that he has tasted a dose of humility.

Detroit looks like the team most likely to take Kane. Let them have him. Flames may need scoring but adding Kane to this group is a poison pill.

I watched his interview after the Barracuda game and this guy really things he’s still the man. Like the way he answered the questions gave off such a cocky vibe

I would enjoy seeing the dynamic of Kane on this team, Patrick that is, as for Evander, that's a grenade with the pin already wiggled most of the way out.

Any sources on Detroit or is this just your opinion?
