Poor you!! you are so hard done by. My god everyone stop. This man lives under under extreme dictatorial rule. He has to wear a chin diaper and stand six feet from others! MY GOD!!
It's okay buddy. We will rise up and overthrow these tyrants!
You have no idea what it means to live in a dictatorship or communist regime my friend. Ever have your father disappear for two months and then be given 24 hrs to leave a country with your family on his return? Ever watch a woman and her kid beaten to death by police in front of a cheering crowd? Ever have to avoid unpaved roads and grass near your home for fear of landmines? Have you ever had to hand your new born child to a complete stranger in an airplane flying to safety in order to ensure its survival?
Shut the **** up about your fake self imposed suffering. Based on your statements I'm going to assume you haven't traveled much or don't have much life experience.
I 100% agree, but the post I was responding to took the stance that we are the good guys and they are the bad guys. Simply pointing out that every time we spread “democracy” 100,000’s of thousands of innocent people die.
We obviously have freedom of speech and more freedoms than china but I would argue we inflict more harm globally than china does.
"We" is doing a lot of work there, and you could have tried to make the point in a better way.
If you wanted it to get a point across that's more advanced than "boycotts are stupid'.
Please enlighten us. Tell us how we are are now currently are actually in a democracy of free people free to make their own choices and not under the rule of a dictatorial/communist regime in Canada. Waiting to be educated, standing in a line six feet away from the next person, wearing a chin diaper looking at an empty shelf at my local grocery store, barely getting there due to the restrictions on how much gasoline I can buy ...
Because nobody is coming to arrest you for writing this.
Or marking it down so they can arrest you for something later.
Enlighten yourself.

I think a lot of players may sit out because of the quarantine requirements. Staying in quarantine under the Chinese government's watchful eye for up to 5 weeks does not sound like fun.
How can 40,000,000 people in the 2nd largest nation area wise on earth with ridiculous over bearing multiple layers of environmental study laws be compared to the 1,000,000,000 all most all along their coast line from a nation with the 2nsd largest economy on the planet and zero environmental laws? We're doing more harm? Please elaborate.
I was talking more about western society vs china but if you want to compare Canada and china you can’t, and to your point above about economy and size they aren’t comparable.
Which also doesn’t help with a boycott, Canada skipping the olympics gains nothing from a political point of view, going doesn’t gain much either but do you think that staying home will even get mentioned on US coverage?

The number of "evil see see pee" hot takes in this thread is out of control. You'd hope that people living in a country that sells arms to Saudi Arabia and that continually crushes indigenous communities in order to produce the most energy-intensive form of oil in the world would harbor a little more self-reflection before crying about "human rights abuses" in a country their angry posts have no sway over.

Do you know a single person who thinks Canada is infallible?

That probably kills the idea. No one involved (players, franchises) is going to be cool with that.
Especially when the Chinese men's hockey team cruises to a gold medal because every opposing team has a mysterious rash of positive COVID tests the day before the game. And then the day after the game, whoopsie! Turns out they were all false positives. You can finish the Games and go home, but we'll take the win by forfeit.
I'm only about two-thirds kidding. People keep mentioning the 1936 Olympics in Berlin; well, books have been written about the blatant cheating by the Germans. When a dictator decides that he wants the prestige of hosting the Olympics, he also wants the prestige of winning.

I’m sorry but I couldn’t resist… his ‘chin diaper’ was literally brimming with the bulls*%+ he was spewing lol.
What’s funny is that the term was largely popularized by South Park, who mock people like the OP mercilessly. It was actually a term for losers who refuse to wear their mask properly and would wear it only on their chin.

As the threat of NHL players not coming because of these quarantine rules stats becoming a reality, I can see the Chinese government making an exception here.

Why? Their hockey teams odds of getting blown out are decreasing each day.

When only China and none of the world will watch that it is a problem. The revenue generated by having NHL players there will mean much more to China than what their hockey team does.
Pierre Lebrun on what the league might do with the three week break-
Quote:
If the NHL and NHLPA do pull out, there are questions as to what happens with those three empty weeks on the schedule.
My sense recently was that the league would attempt to unclog some of the busier stretches for some clubs if their arena availabilities allow for re-scheduled games.
Quote:
The fact is, the league did ask clubs to try to keep their buildings mostly open during that stretch in case there was an Olympic pull-out, but understandably some teams went ahead and took the sure revenue in concert dates.

They're not doing it for revenue. They're doing it for prestige and propaganda. They already knew going in that it would cost them gobs of money.

Sucks to be those teams who took the revenue. I guess they’ll get to sit on the sidelines for 3 weeks and then play a condensed schedule the rest of the way, while everyone else gets more balance.
It would also suck for any fans who planned trips to see games that end up rescheduled.

Exactly. If China medals against the non-NHL or neutered NHL rosters of the big 5 nations, that's another feather in the CCP's bag of propaganda.
Chinese people wouldn't know or care that it was a meaningless win with a Team China full of foreigners or that it wasn't a best-on-best competition. However, they are fiercely nationalistic and they would care that "China Number 1" because they beat the perennial hockey powers.
