Wtf lol, that’s so bad for the Oilers

Toffoli at 20% retained (3.45 for the next two years) for 1st 2022 + 3rd seems like good value for both teams? Maybe I'm off?

I said it earlier in the season, he fits this team like a glove. 4.25 for the next two seasons is a steal for our biggest lineup need. If you can get the Tabs to retain on that, even better!

Toffoli apparently grew up a Habs fan. I'm guessing a couple seasons in Montreal hasn't worn off the shine yet. So I think he'll want to stay for for awhile longer.

Hahah pelletier is playing well. I wonder if Montreal would retain toffoli 50% for a crack at a French star...

They would probably make him their GM as well

They already are all in. The Oilers are almost $8 million over the cap, and bailing themselves out with LTIR relief. They simply cannot add any more talent without shipping contracts out.

If it sets the events in motion I'm all in!

We never drafted Toffoli so I wouldn't be too fussed if he stuck around or not.

Why does Montreal always need to have their GM bilingual? Obviously they're in a bilingual province, but from the perspective of bringing in the best talent, aren't they putting themselves at a disadvantage by having this as a must-have requirement? I wonder if Atlanta Braves GM Alex Anthopolous will be considered a few years down the line? Seems like a limited pool to choose from in sports Exec circles.

After playing Vegas on Sunday, it makes me wonder who they will move to make room for eichel when he is ready to be activated. I still think they are going to pull a kucherov with him and I think that’s been their plan all along. The league will do nothing about it of course. No matter how obvious it is that they are circumventing the cap. Either he will eichel will be ready just in time for playoffs or, more likely, they will place 2-3 guys on LTIR when he is ready to return during the regular season and those players will be re-activated right when playoffs start.

If I’m wrong and they do have to move $9 million in salary during the season, who will they move? I assume it will have to be multiple players that have a decent cap hit. And I don’t think they have many bad players under bad contracts so it will likely have to be players that they don’t want to lose.

The timeline for Kucherov's injury lined up perfectly with the start of the playoffs. Maybe he could have been back a week or 2 earlier but Tampa definetly had some luck on the timeline and start of the playoffs

Eichel's surgery has him back at least a month before the playoff start. I doubt they can pull that off.

When I look at their roster, they don't really have anyone obvious to dump that isn't a key contributor on an ok contract.

Brossiot could go and just hope Lehner stays healthy.

Dadanov is another guy but that still brings the total to around $7 mil assuming the new back up goalie is on a league min contract.

Smith is another player and he would be a rental player but he also seems to play well on this team. But someone would need to be removed from the top 2 lines.

If it is Smith and Dadonov I would think Dadonov would be hard to move without including a first. Dadonov has a NTC too so he will be very interesting if he is the one they try to move as he may not want to go to teams like Arizona or back to Ottawa

If it’s only a month, I could easily see them pulling it off. It’s a serious back injury… they could easily say they are being cautious and want to make sure he’s 100% and completely back into “game shape”. So much of the assessment will be subjunctive to Eichel. If they can get eichel to play ball then they will be able to push it a month.

The only hitch could be if eichel really wants to play in the olympics… that would force their hand to activate him when he gets back. But again, I really think they will find players on their roster that “need” a month on LTIR. It’s not like the league would step in and do anything about it.

It’s because they are a poorly run organization. They used to do the same thing with their players.

Why not hire on merit and get a translator?

Vegas is becoming more unlikeable by the day. They're turning from Anakin to Darth Vader before our very eyes.

Darth was more likeable than Anakin but I get your point.

For sure they will try to organize that. When asked what they would do, McPhee even said that they don’t expect to be fully healthy at that point. There are always players that are banged up and could use rest down the stretch. Won’t be too difficult to find star players that could use the rest and find medical justification for it. It doesn’t seem like the NHL polices the LTIR system that hard. Everyone knows Kucherov was ready to go before the playoffs and they didn’t have to activate him right away for example.

It's more like they're going from Anakin to Jar-Jar...but the Jar-Jar everyone thinks he is, not Jar-Jar the most powerful Sith he really is.
