Exactly how would they make that work cap wise? No chance.

Well, he didn’t make it very far through through the waiver line. He should be good pick up for the Habs should they rebuild.

Fleury was definitely somebody who Edmonton was looking hard at. Then MK and Skinner started playing well. I would think they probably start circling back to Fleury if MK starts faltering, and maybe already have with the curse Terry Jones put on Skinner

The Hawks just got Fleury this summer and he's playing a lot better lately. Not sure why the Hawks would be in a big rush to get rid of him.

I would also imagine that Fleury, who had to be convinced to play for Chicago, would just retire if he were traded to Edmonton.

They could make cap work for them by sending back some cap in Nurse and MK...

I don’t know why Chicago would trade him but it doesn’t change the fact that the oilers were interested. Heck if they upgrade the 5th rounder they used to acquire him why not.

If they made the package so sweet the Habs retained a significant amount of Salary.

To Oilers: Price ($3MM Retained)

To Habs: Broberg + Holloway + 2022 1st

The Oilers window is literally this year. They need to be all in. In fairness though, I don’t think even Carey Price makes them a contender.

But they are still absorbing $7M in that scenario. Even more, if the replacement for Broberg costs more than his $863K

Agreed, obviously would have to move Koskinen at very least to someone. Maybe Habs also take on someone like Turris.

Okay right, they send Koskinen back the other way.

But if you're Montreal, and you're sending your franchise player out, for a dead contract, you need to be getting PAID.

Is Broberg, Holloway and a late 1st enough to give up Price, eat salary, AND take on Koskinen?

If Fleury is available at the deadline, and the Avs goaltending is still shakey, they’ll be at the front of the line.

It's the final year of his contract. He's 37 years old and was already contemplating retirement last summer. Chicago is in 14th place in the West and well out of the playoff picture.

But they have no cap space either, and aren't banking any (they are over, including the LTIR and overage penalties)

Not enough for Montreal's beloved franchise player. Not to mention he has control over where he goes, I am sure Edmonton is at the top of the list of places he says no fn way.

So I’ve had another 6 hours to ponder and I definitely want the Flames to go out and snag Toffoli!

Sounds like Gorton is going to be asking Habs veterans if they want to be part of the rebuild.
