Yeah… maybe. Or maybe he suffers a Crosby level injury and misses a season. It’s all a bunch of guessing.

Whoops. I was asleep at the wheel.
Anyhow, Ovechkin scored goals #734 and #744 on Sunday v. the SJ Sharks, and goal #745 in that crazy game in Seattle on Monday. He is only 21 back of Jaromir Jagr for third all-time, and will continue his quest tonight with the Montreal Canadiens in town.
1 Wayne Gretzky — 894 [1487 GP]
2 Gordie Howe — 801 [1767 GP]
3 Jaromir Jagr — 766 [1733 GP]
4 Alex Ovechkin — 745, *24 Nov: 15G/19GP [1216 GP]

Just like that Ovechkin has equaled his assists from last year. He had 18 last year in 45 games. He reached that in 20 games this year.
He is 1 behind his assist total in 2019-20. He had 19 assists in 68 games that year.

Ovechkin is going to set an NHL record...probably the biggest
McDavid won't be setting any records yet he is the greatest player ever according to some media members

It seems unreal that he not only still has the skills but also still has the fire to do this well. An NHL season is supposed to be an absolute grind for someone his age. Jagr’s record? It looks like he’s hungry for Howe’s record this year. Or maybe he wants to retire early so he decided to speed up the eventuality of breaking Gretzky’s and just get on with retirement sooner.

I bet some of Ovi's fire is because little Sergei is getting just old enough to recognize that his dad is doing something really cool for a living. Here he is tonight throwing his hat out on the ice for dad's hat trick:

Ovechkin wants to break hockey. He is on a tear.
