Also that $637.5k number is flat out wrong for two reasons
1) Because my math was wrong, no idea where I even got that number from but 50% of his Coyotes salary this year = $425k
2) because the trade deadline will be after Arizona has played about 75% of their season.
So in reality, Arizona only has to retain $106,250 to retain $3.4M of Kessel's salary cap hit

I’m sure Kessel would rather disembowel himself with a fork than come back to play in Canada.

You mean Calgary’s not on his 8 team trade list? You mean he cares not for the glare of the spotlight versus tooling around Phoenix being mistaken for a social studies teacher?

Nah I am sure he can't wait until the media reports on his hot dog eating habits again!

if you were one of the teams in pursuit of Eichel, would you offer the same same package for Crosby? How about Kopitar?

Laughable to suggest Crosby is available
Why would a team offer the same package they did for Eichel for players a full decade older?

If the Ducks falter, the Flames could make a move on Rakell.

Apparently Kevin Fiala is also on the block according to Friedman. He would be an interesting winger to pick up imo. Young, speedy, good underlying numbers. Contract up this year and rfa.

Not too sure if he fits the profile the Flames might be interested in. Is there room for another smallish skilled LHS winger?
On another note LeBrun had a great piece on the Flames and Sutter yesterday. Exec’s around the league talked about what the Flames have done/are doing.

I heard Marek and Friedman talk about Fiala on a recent podcast. Does not sound like a character I would want on this team, imo.

He was playing the RW effectively (with Parise at LW) when he first arrived in Minnesota and broke out. Re: stature, he's 5'11 but 205+lbs, so a dense little guy. Known for quickness and smarts. I think he'd be potentially perfect with Dube-Monahan for that third line.
I hadn't heard the character issue stuff- can you elaborate a bit Moncton?
I recall there was some chatter about issues when he was moved from Nashville, but I assumed it was opportunity/playing time related, and he kind of put that to bed when he stepped up in Minnesota.

Looks like he’s bigger than the profile I came across.
I’m not so sure it is a character issue, but I think what Friedman and Marek discussed was that he is very self assured/confident, which can rub people the wrong way.

He is bigger than I thought too...I wouldn't be surprised if we grabbed some size depth like Jordan Greenway, or Lawson Crouse for a playoff push.

I like the player but i don’t think it fits the plans. Unless we are losing one of Gaudreau or Tkachuk I don’t see how we can manage to re-sign our 3 all star wingers (yes, Mangiapane is having an all star season) and also acquire Fiala.
Monahan++ would have to be going the other way.

Why? Acquire him for this season and worry about that in the offseason. You can trade Fiala as an RFA then, or Monahan, or someone else maybe! Or Maybe that's when Tkachuk situation comes to a head and we trade him? Who knows. Who cares until then.
We are trying to win the cup this season, right? I think we are.

The character issue to me was Fiala being described as 'extremely confident in himself'. For the record, I have no problem with confident players, but the way it was talked about, I felt like he was the type of guy I would want away from my Flames, who appear to be tight knit so far and a team first attitude.
It's maybe just me, but 'me first' players are not what this team is about. I would avoid.

Taking a while to get to 5000

^ Boeser's name would have to be out there. Moving Miller out for 2 RFAs in need of deals with little space left and Boeser also needing a deal? Though this does seem like the bind Vancouver would naturally find itself in.

Fiala for Miller is a decent trade for both sides. Vancouver gets 3 years younger and the Wild get the better player right now.
