10/10 for the observation on the fan behind the net.
I noticed that and it cracked me up

Except that Nieuwendyk didn't have the arched eyebrows and neatly trimmed black beard that make Kylington look like an unusually badass Bond villain.

Get him on the PP as a regular and maybe we don't end up with more 2-1 OTLs.
(PP1 preferably)

I"m thinking that starts happening after the road trip is over, when they have plenty of practice time for new PP combinations. Really difficult to do during a long trip with a tight schedule.

Yeah he's been fine.
He started the season with no points in five games but has 9 points in 12 games since. Hardly eye-popping production especially when you consider most of those points came on the PP, but it's fine.

Sabres 0 Flames 5, 3 points for Johnny, Markstrom with a shutout
Calgary is doing what good teams do to bad teams.
Instead of playing down to them, they put the boots to them.

Stellar game! Sutter is God. Markstrom is GOD. Gudbransson is God. Johnny and Magiapane are GODS.
Big win to leap over the stupid Ducks and back on Edmonton's tail. 3rd best goal differential in the league!

He is fine if all you expect from a 6.5M center is some PP time and a filler on the bottom line. Truth is there is no sign of returning to form.

Fine is rather subjective and I don't really know what it means. It's funny how fans want to blow everything up when things are going poorly and don't change a thing when it's going well. The team is playing well and getting good results right now with Monahan pushed down the lineup so there's that.
Sutter said in his comments he put Backlund between Mangiapane and Coleman to get some offense. It's something to keep an eye on as the season progresses, since 5 on 5 production outside of the top line is going to be important. Monahan is a guy that is paid to provide that.

Coleman-Backlund-Mangiapaine was awesome, been waiting for Backs to get on a line w two good wingers, was a treat to watch. Seems so complete.
Good job Sutter.

Monahan needs someone on his line who can carry the puck, and Dube and Pitlick don’t seem to be able to do that right now.
The other thing I noticed yesterday, is that Monahan was taking very short shifts, especially in the third. He was alway the first one of his line to get back to the bench. Made me wonder if he is still not in game shape or that the injury is still bothering him

I think he has returned to form. But the bottom line is there are 3 or 4 centers on the team that skate a lot better than him. Injury or no injury.
His primary role has changed from standing in the slot and being a trigger man to a more 200 foot player. He’ll be playing with weaker wingers so I doubt you’ll see the historical offensive output again.
He doesn’t really fit into a box anymore because the game is so fast and he quite frankly isn’t equipped for fast.
The best thing Sutter did was seperate Monahan and Gaudreau. Monahan was holding Johnny back.
It’s good that he has accepted his new role. Good teams always have that characteristic. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with him go forward.

Who remembers the 2009 WJC's? Where Tokarski outplayed Markstrom in the gold medal game. Funny trajectory that goalies have.

Whatever Sutter is doing with Kylington it's clearly working, stay the course. The PP time will come.
What's the record for shutouts this early in the season? Flames have racked up a bunch.
