That’s not on Johnny Gaudreau though, that’s on the GM. If this team fails to win, it’s not because of their top offensive producer, it’s because the GM didn’t build a good enough team to beat out other GM’s better built teams.

Also, this kind of attitude is why Canadian teams are always on star player’s no trade lists. They don’t want to play in a fish bowl where some fans pin all the losses and failures on just one guy or two guys.

I don’t really look at Lindholm’s game in that way. To me, he’s the glue that binds his line together. He’s always in the right position and the way he can forecheck, backcheck and apply pressure the opposition in all areas of the ice, that’s probably his greatest asset. The NHL is checking league now and that’s exactly what he brings to the table each and every night.

Even with the way he’s fighting the puck right now and lack of production, he still manages to never hurt the team. I mean, he’s on pace for a +59 season. I know this isn’t everyone’s favorite stat, but I certainly wouldn’t mind a guy who’s on the ice for 59 goals for than against.

Welp, just like that the Flames have 7 wins and 7 losses.

Luckily four of the losses yielded a loser point.

Goal differential is still good, and advanced stats are still good.

Hopefully they can get this trolley back on the tracks before they steam roll off a cliff.

I agree that Lindholm is good at those things, but even Blake Coleman is good at those things. That's not enough to be centering the top line on your team. Lindholm was the top RW of the purple gatorade line and he was arguably the most invisible player on that line down the stretch in 2019 and into the playoffs. Which is hard to fathom considering Monahan was pretty bad himself.

This was a fun game, to tell the truth. Flames were banging, the Leafs were countering. I thought Johnny looked good, Lindholm looked better. The Monahan line still looks good (I’ve never seen Monahan work the boards like this before). Kylington was great and I’m not going to hold the one mistake against him. Lucic was a hitting machine. And Vladar!

Negatives - Tkachuk.

I feel like Sutter is moulding Monahan to get pissed off which has always been missing from his game.

I thought he had a pretty effective game. Plenty of decent area passes and puck control. I think they break through pretty soon.

Some people need to accept Gaudreau for what he is and not blame every loss on him? He is a skilled offensive player and he has the 82nd highest cap hit in the league. For the most part, he is not good enough to win and lose games by himself.

looking at standings we're only 2 points out of 1st in our division and the western conference and 4 back of 1 in the league. we should have beat sj and habs, we were a couple lucky bounces away from 1st in the west. All things considered things are alright

They had a slow start and its very early. No matter what you think of their depth, they have great top end talent and games against them are never considered “easy” by any tram in this league.

The problem is, there’s no clear cut elite #1 center on this team. So they kind of have to go with best of the bunch of method. I think Backlund would be formidable as the team’s #1 pivot, but his finishing skills are subpar. Even when Tkachuk was serving it on to a silver platter, Backlund still failed to convert. Lindholm is the better finisher, so i can see why he’s up there.

I guess some people have really high standards for a 4th round pick.

Lindholm is a point per game, leads the team in plus minus, has the best even strength ga/60 rating and the third best gf/60. Best face-off percentage among all our centers. Plays 1st unit power play and leads the forwards in penalty kill time.

But he's not good enough to center the top line?

Wow, what a take

Really getting tired of this narrative that Kylington is bad defensively. The Flames barely allow any chances when he's on the ice and he's a legit part of that.

With the way he's playing, I wouldn't change a part of his game right now. Every defenceman gives the puck away now and then.

Yeah, calling out Kylington for being bad defensively is extremely lazy as it just relies on the narrative surrounding him in previous years. Oh, that is an Eric Francis headline... that explains it then.

Tanev was the one fumbling the puck for partial breakaways against tonight, with Kylington busting his ass to break them up for the most part.

The team should buy Vlader beers after that game. He was the reason for the point. Great backup goalie! Best one I’ve seen on the Flames.

The rest if the team looked bagged. Understandable with the back to back.

They better get some sleep and take it out on Ottawa on Sunday.
