My favourite take: I’m glad I didn’t get what I want, it’ll probably be better in the long run.

Complaining BT didn't do enough, even though we don't know what the offer even was.
Complaining about things that haven't even happened yet.
Complaining about things that are completely made up.
Some people just want to complain. About Anything. Everything. If you want to, go for it, but holy moly that has to be an exhausting way to go through life.

Can't speak for anyone else - I had Tkachuk as a logical piece moving IF the rumors of him wanting to be traded were accurate. And if they were true then it would make sense to use him as a chip for another elite player (albeit with a big question mark due to injury)
I have always said this team needs more Tkachuks and not less....
We'll see whether those rumors had any validity soon enough I guess.

LeBrun from the Athletic (sorry on phone can’t do an official quote)
“ There was a moment as late as Wednesday where the Golden Knights thought Eichel might be headed to Calgary. Whether the Sabres leaked something out there regarding the Flames or not in order to get one last piece in the Golden Knights deal, well, I guess we’ll never know for sure.
Matthew Tkachuk was never part of any Flames package, and that’s a fact. But the Flames went hard after Eichel, sources confirm, and may have felt their offer to Buffalo was not only was fair but perhaps better than Vegas. That’s all in the eye of the beholder, of course.
The takeaway is Calgary remained in the Eichel sweepstakes right to the end, as well it should, given the chance to get a franchise center at a certain discount.”

From the Flames beat writer on the athletic
“ok the I believe the gap was larger than many may have thought on Tuesday night after ESPN’s Emily Kaplan reported that the Flames and Golden Knights were “finalists.”
The Flames may have been finalists, and they were consistently in on Eichel talks, but they ultimately wound up more of a distant second — and that place was likely secured once Vegas recently agreed to include Krebs in the return. Tuch, with roots from the area (Syracuse, N.Y.), also was an attractive piece for the Sabres.”

You know what they say about experience?
Experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you really wanted.

There’s only two teams that would even consider trading for an RFA Tkachuk right now. St. Louis is the obvious one. Ottawa maybe if they felt that Brady was enough of a draw to convince him to sign. The rest of the league knows he’ll explore getting to STL as UFA if he can and wouldn’t risk bringing him in without long contract control.

Complaining about people complaining tops all of that.

I don’t believe that. I think there a bunch of franchises that probably think they can get Tkachuk to sign an extension. That said I don’t believe Tkachuk will engage in any serious extension talks until after he signs his qualifying offer. Be that with the flames or whoever it might be .

If you're not even in the top third of #1 centres at a given time, how does that make you elite at your position? That's where Gilmour and Nieuwendyk were then.
|
This is a weird argument. Again I’ll ask, how many elite centers have there been in NHL history by your count? Rob Ramage was awesome but he didn’t win the Cup for the Flames. The playoffs were a coming out party for Gilmour whose play met every definition of elite I can think of. Probably the best forward in the NHL through that stretch. Nieuwendyk hadn’t fully matured yet his 50 goals in each year was elite production and he was not as lost defensively as you suggest. Take a look at the goals that team allowed. Elite defensively.
Your assertion Flames have never had an elite center is flat wrong. Suggesting Nilsson was only one who came close makes me think your analysis is woefully one dimensional.

BIG plus, Flames were willing to take some risks to make the team better. BT stayed in it to the very end. Good to see the Flames management recognize we need better/elite players. Now that we have better coaching if we can find ways to improve the team we might enjoy some success.

how can anyone believe this or anything from Tree? Didn't someone post a tweet quoting Treliving that he would never trade Hamilton the day before he did?
Using the word FACT is a little strong in this case. It's all damage control at this point. What else is he gonna say?? Of course he wont admit it now.
I 100% believe Chuck was on the table and Tree got caught with his pants down.

Treliving said he wasn’t. Adams says he wasn’t. The Tkachuks say he wasn’t. Other insiders say the same.

Adams? whatever the hell he wants...if Tkachuk was on the table I think he would have taken it. You just want to be mad and Tre, seems VERY unlikely that dumb rumor from last night was real considering what got the deal done.
Every single reporter and party involved has shot it down yet you are 100% sure because of? bias?
I think some of you need to also realize that the reason Eichel was traded in the first place is because Buffalo thinks the surgery is too risky. We are al LONG way from I told you so's

If the Flames were truly a distant second to what won the trade, for Jack Eichel locked in for 4.5 years, then yes we have a massive GM problem. But I think we all already kind of know that.

Buccigross:"If the Sabres initially had said yes to that surgery, would you still be a Sabre today?"
Eichel: "You know, I'm not sure about that."
