He hasn't played since March of last year and they want to drop him into the playoffs on a new team.

Yeah, at least with Kucherov it was a guy that could just blend right back in.
Now Eichel, as good as he may be, will have to learn to play with (presumably) Stone and Patches. Who will also be coming back from injury. Not as easy as Tampa.

I think the team will be better off with the depth we are building. The team is only as strong as its weakest link, and the Flames are building critical mass in some surprisingly good prospects. Keep your chin up Flames fans. You may feel like this is a loss, but I firmly believe today is a win for the organization in the long run.

Agreed. I mean it would be nice to Eichel of course, but there is a huge risk with him. Vegas is in the position where they can afford to give up assets to take on that risk considering the team has been in the contender window since they've entered the league, and they can give up prospects, while having some within the system that can make the team in the future and be good contributors.
Flames on the other hand have had a weak prospect base for forever. Flames don't have as much of a luxury to give up future assets since they're in a deficit. And the way the league is structured now, it's essential to be able to develop players within your system to be key players for you down the road; since acquisition through free agency and trades is not as easy, nor a sure bet like it used to be. Flames need to be holding on to their top prospects and early round picks. They shouldn't be giving up those type of assets until they are like Vegas, where they've made it to the third round/conference finals in three out of the four seasons they've been in the league. Those are the moves of contenders, and Flames aren't in that tier -even with their hot start so far.
Once again Brad is the bridesmaid, but in this case it's likely better for the franchise in the long run due to the costs, and risk of this move.

Heres something very over looked. Yes for about 1/2 to 2/3s of Zadarovs salary the team can resign Guadreau for 8.5-9 mil or what ever. Still have Tkachuk to figure out. We're so pleased Mangiapane and Kjillington have emerged into full time NHLers who contribute we seem to have over looked they are both due for big raises and for certain Kjillington isn't signing for 750,000 next year.
If we're keeping those 2 guys they will cost another 2 million each or more likely and all of sudden were in Edmontons shoes and trying to pad the team with under priced junk. All the Eichel scenario's I saw here just didn't factor everything in. Eichel's 10 mill, even if you traded Tkachuks 7,000,000 AAV or Monahans 6.350,000 your still trying to fit a 10,000,000 player under the next cap AND keep Mango and Kjilly??? Never mind Guadreau and or Tkachuk.

My guess is that the original offer was Smith and Krebs. Flames upped their offer and Vegas upgraded Smith to Tuch and Sabres loved Krebs and went with that.

How is this relevant?
It's not like he would sign in Buffalo they went with guys who want to be there...which is rare

I'm shocked that so many were/are ready to throw Tkachuk away for some odd reason. For a broken player who isn't on some other level than Tkachuk. Some of the things said on this board, especially perceived value since his name surfaced with these rumors in this thread, again shocked me.
Matthew is SO much better in so many facets of the game than many either see, appreciate or understand. He is going to go on a crazy run very soon this season that will have many eating a big plate of crow.
Every team in this league would want and need Matthew Tkachuk. I'm embarrassed to think he may read this board on occasion. I'm just relieved he knows Treliving didn't offer him up in his Eichel deal. Pleased that Treliving wasn't throwing caution to the wind for Jacky boy.
TL;DR: Matthew Tkachuk is worth A LOT more than a broken spine Jack Eichel who is demanding a trade.

Are you aware of the awful contract Boston Pizza signed Tkachuk to?
He's going to Mark Stone us for sure.
But it's okay. I'm sure the 2nd round picks we get will be useful for adding more depth dmen

This rings especially true this year. What's making the Flames great this year is the relentless offensive pushes. That can't happen without depth.
Eichel would have been nice, if had meant not losing a bunch of roster players. The likely ask (assuming the news about Tkachuk not being on the table are true) would have been Monahan, Mangiapane, and another young player already in or just about to step into the roster. Then you need to look at the cap consequences of bringing in Eichel and who the Flames have to jetison or not re-sign to make the cap work over the next 5 years.
With the start the Flames are off to, it's hard for me to call for Treliving's head, even though I too am disappointed about not getting the big fish.

I highly doubt there is a single team in the league that would give the same return for Chucky as Eichel.

I'm aware. I'm also aware of the unique kind of player Matthew Tkachuk is.
My awareness also tells me you don't know sweet fork all about what Tkachuk wants or is planning to do.

No you're right. I'm sure BP will lock up Matty to a team friendly extension after giving him all the leverage. It's not like there's a ton of smoke indicating that's pie in sky dreaming lol
