What is asinine about it?
Monahan has 0 points outside of powerplay unit 1.
This isn't hypothetical. All his points have come on the powerplay. At best you can argue he might have 1 powerplay point on PP2, like Backlund/Dube/Hanifin.
Mangiapane is the only player outside of PP1 to have more than PP point, and he is also our second most productive 5v5 player, unlike Monahan.

Yeah, scoring on the PP is important.
You know what's more important? Outscoring the opposition while you're on the ice during even strength play. Sean Monahan doesn't do that.

All depends when they get guys back...because that forward group right now is "Yuck".
But the thing is the Western conference is weak, especially the Pacific, and they just need to get into that second Wild Card.
Colorado, St.Louis, Winnipeg, Minnesota, & Edmonton are probably your playoff locks at this point. Flames under Sutter probably part of that group in a weak Pacific division.
So they likely have 1 Pacific Division and 1 Wild Card spot open for them.
So to get the 3rd spot in the Pacific they need to outpace San Jose, Anaheim, Vancouer and LA.
For the 2nd Wild Card it's those same teams and Nashville, or Dallas.
Honestly it would be kind of funny to see the Oilers finish 1st in the Western Conference. Only to then have to face a healthy and over the cap Vegas team as in the first round if they sneak into the second Wild Card.

My position is that this team lives or dies by Darryl Sutter. Because the roster on paper is not even close to being a playoff threat. I have no idea how it will all go down, so all I have to go on is the history of this core, and I think their history speaks for itself.

How many 5 on 5 points does Monahan have this year?

You realize Buffalo has been in the league 51 years with no cup right?

How has McDavid helped the Oilers? Bad teams stay bad. Good teams don't tank.

For what it’s worth Weekes and Adams played together for three years
Going to guess that was Weekes doing his friend a favor to get Vegas to budge

I hope you're right, but I've been burned by hope too many times to believe anything will ever actually change with this franchise. Any time I allow myself to feel excited about the Calgary Flames it turns out to be a setup for a more bitter and crushing disappointment.

I never said they would win...but it is a totally different team
the way they are winning now is much different than that miracle 2nd overall season. Even when they lose they dominate but don't get the bounces.

He can’t do it by himself. I’d be willing to bet that nobody else slotted between those two wingers would have either a point or positive advanced metrics. The rest of that line is literally a black hole.

Based on how you've ordered the players, you're saying this is our current C depth:
Lindholm
Dube
Backlund
...and this is what you'd like it to be:
Wright
Bedard
Lindholm
Backlund
Dube
Interesting. So, in your perfect world... Lindholm is a $4.85M 3rd-line C, Backlund is a $5.35M 4th-line C, Dube is a $2.3M healthy-scratch C... because we've somehow drafted both Wright (your #1 C) and Bedard (your #2 C)?
I don't know what's worse: You calling Lindholm a 3rd-line C, you wanting to spend $10M on our 3rd and 4th line Cs, you thinking Dube shouldn't even be in the lineup or you acting like Monahan doesn't even exist.

It's the Bennett Paradox. You need go players to play with to play well - Or you should be good enough to dominate with anyone before playing with good line mates.

Didn't Adams come out and deny the Weekes tweet? Weird way to treat the guy who just did you a huge favor.

If the Flames traded Tkachuk, 2 firsts, and Vali today they could get more than a injured Eichel. I was all in until I saw that proposal.
Picks and Monahan are one thing, that would have been at disaster especially if Eichel never gets back to 100% which is certainly possible.
