Pretty unacceptable and irresponsible to be putting those rumours out there that clearly had no traction. Not only does it suck for the fans, but it's unfair to the players too. What a circus of Mickey Mouse reporting.

This is where we are making a mistake. These are not reporters. These guys are trying to get their names out there for credibility but they are being used. Old hockey player with connections does not a reporter make. That's why he will not be held accountable for his comments. Do you think any other reporter will call him out in public?
Weekes should never be taken seriously ever again. These guys get used by the teams and agents to create the "buzz" required around their people. We have no idea what if anything was going on. He's just a blue check mark on twitter.
The only thing this "media" did was force Treliving to do some damage control within his organization. He doesn't owe us an explanation. If the team keeps dominating, then great, but man if the Flames lose tonight this place, Bingo will need to put a mental health warning at the top of the page.
Now-a-days the line between reporter, blogger, attention-whores, and just outright sycophants out to manipulate others, is wide and blurred. Welcome to the age of misinformation.

Oh boy
Maybe because Mangiapane's ability to carry his own line allows us to play him mediocre talent like Brett Ritchie and still have distributed scoring?
Maybe because his young linemate Dube is literally seven games into his career in terms of playing the centre position?
Maybe because if he didn't spoonfeed Monahan PP1 minutes, our 6.3M dollar center would have ZERO points this year.

$7 million??!! That is asinine. I will bet everything I own hr doesn't get $7 million a year from the Calgary Flames.
|
Good for you?
I'd be shocked if Mangiapane's cap hit comes below that number.

I am happy wanting wins today, because I understand that wins in November count for the same points as wins in April, and teams that win lots in the season stand a better chance at transferring that ability to win in the playoffs.

I think Vegas did well, but the true cost is still yet unknown. I think they end up giving away Patches, Smith or Marchessault + a sweetener, perhaps even Theodore to make the cap work. They will still see some pain to get Eichel in the lineup.
|
Pacioretty and Marchessault each have some trade protection. While not bulletproof, it certainly makes it harder to get good value on the trade. Smith is easier to move since he can go anywhere, but there will still be only so many teams interested. Theodore has real value, but Vegas can still only ask for picks/prospects as the point of the exercise is to shed salary.
I guess the question then isn't is Eichel able to replace Tuch & Krebs, but can Eichel replace Tuch & Krebs and 2 more players. And if not, then what chances do they have of making the playoffs with their current roster, considering the injuries that will still be around for a few more weeks.

As we clearly saw against Colorado, right?
Until this team actually nuts up and does something in the playoffs they have earned zero right to the benefit of the doubt.

IF Vegas makes the playoffs without Eichel they MIGHT get one shot with this roster
then they have to clear 10M or whatever it is
The price they are paying is being undersold IMO

Yeah I'm not so sure I like Vegas's playoff chances without Tuch and all the injuries they have right now.

Or because he isn't that elite at what you think he's elite at. There is 0 chance Mangiapane contract starts with a 7. Low chance it starts with a 6. He is a $5 million dollar player when you take into account his last two seasons.
If you only look at last 25 games you might as well give him $12 million because any shot he takes seems to go in. Thankfully Treliving is smarter than that.

To each their own. I just don't think a team with Elias Lindholm, Dillon Dube, and Mikael Backlund as its centre depth has a better chance at transferring that ability to win in the playoffs compared to a team with Shane Wright, Connor Bedard, Elias Lindholm, and Mikael Backlund, plus Dillon Dube.

Boy the new positive Mr. Donkey sure lasted a long time.
Sutter has proven to be a successful playoff coach and has this group playing the right way to succeed so far. I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt to his proven systems and coaching style.

I think Dube and Monahan are wildcards.
Don't really know what we have in him at center. I think he will be a better player at game 82 than he is now. That's important.
Monahan, to me is a year long project. Throw his stats out the window and check in again at the start of the playoffs. He is undergoing a mid career refurbishment under Sutter. Provided he stays healthy, I think bt game 82 you will have a much more well rounded player.
