I completely get where you are coming from but let's not pretend the last 8 seasons haven't been a debacle and some of the worst Hockey ever witnessed. The only reprieve was one great regular season and then the team getting flattened in the first round.
It's 9 games into the season and they're playing well but people have the absolute right to be pissed about this team and Treliving.
8 years of absolute crap results vs. 9 games.

But my god, based on some of the reactions here some of you need to grow up and/or move on to a new, healthier hobby for yourselves. This is not the right outlet if you have that much negativity in your life.
The team is 6-1-2 and playing some of the best hockey in the entire league. Today is a good day regardless of a trade that didn’t happen.
|
I think it’s because the opportunity to get this caliber player at a position that is so important, doesn’t come around very often. As a fan, it’s very discouraging. I realize the Flames are off to a good start. But do you actually think they have the team to go the distance? I’m not so sure about that.

I mean, I'm super disappointed too. But holy overreaction (not that I'm surprised by it, I actually anticipated it). People calling for the team to blow it up when then they are 6-1-2 need to chill a little lol. I can just imagine Tre's pep talk now.
"Sorry guys, I know you are playing really well as a team and we've had a fantastic start, but we are going full rebuild because we couldn't get a guy who wouldn't have played until near the end of the season. In the next coming weeks, expect to see a lot of you guys get traded while we gut the team for top picks. Good luck everyone! Lets continue to go out there and still kick some ass!"

You can not like it. You can think the offer could be beat. But if the other team simply loved Krebs that's not reality.

Yep, re-direct the anger towards the fact that Vegas had the best prospect - which given their success and our complete lack of success is absolute trash.
It would seem Treliving is bad at many aspects of his job, not just trading.

I'm glad it's finally over and we still have Matthew Tkachuk. (If that rumor was even true)
Tkachuk's a future champion in my view.
Maybe the Flames just didn't have the right combination of players, Tkachuk was to much and maybe Monahan not quite enough if he was even involved.
This is the best I've felt about the Flames in a long time so hopefully we can keep this roster together for at least one season and see what happens. Flames should be the ones getting the better returns for the players we have available to improve our roster even more, that's how I look at it.

We'd have to go scorched earth to tank to that level. Also if we are going to let him walk - why wouldn't you trade him?

So glad he finally got traded. A lot of energy wasted on that guy. Glad the Flames didn’t gut their future for a guy who’s going to be useless this season.

I would think Tkachuk + Pelletier > Krebs + Tuch, this is either a sign that the Calgary offer was bogus, or GMs are starting to see Tkachuk as expensive and difficult to deal with.

I personally think some of the anger here is somewhat justified. The problem is the Flames got screwed more than any team here. Not only did the player move to the best team in our division over the last 4 years but we got collateral damage by having our players having to answer questions in the media about this and then having our star player mentioned as being on the table.
I am personally done with Treliving now but I guess let’s see how the season plays out. The team looks solid right now but it is tough to see how they are going to get past McDavid and Eichel for the next 5 years. Really feels like we are stuck on the treadmill now.

I can't anymore. The emotional response is already subsiding. The team just never does anything of significance. Just plodding along accepting mediocrity. I'm more annoyed at myself for renewing my season seats this year.

It’s very disappointing for sure, but if that is the return Eichel could garner, the risk from his surgery seems to be higher than maybe most of us expected.
It is what it is. At the very least the Flames are playing great and hopefully continue doing so. I really hope there isn’t a let down in the next few games. Players are not immune to gossip and rumors

Lindholm without Gaudreau is a 45, 50 pt player.
That IS scorched earth
As for trading him, you have to show the fanbase you tried when we get knocked out of the first round by a #7 seed Vegas team, so you can justify the rebuild.

Man, this thread is painful. The Xbox generation just thinks you can just go into GM mode and make trades happen. This is the real world. Things don't work that way. You need to have what the other team has. Adams was enamored with Krebs. That was the guy he wanted for some reason, and there was no going back. We didn't have what he wanted, so accept it and move on. It takes two parties to consummate a deal, and Vegas had what Adams wanted. You can't just stack up pieces if the individual you are working with is interesting in only one thing. If someone is looking for that mint '67 Mustang, your Porsche and Ferrari are not going to be of interest to them. It's just the way it is.

Well that is a bit disappointing. Don't think we will see a centre of that age and quality on the trade market again for a half decade. If he recovers fully I think the flames are going to be in tough for a long time in this division.
Glad that they are playing well right now but after the last few years one little winning streak shouldn't be convincing anyone that this is all of a sudden a contending caliber team. Love it if they prove me wrong in the playoffs.
Oh also calling people out for being disappointed and playing the emotional cop is pathetic. folks who are willing to spend time on this forum all care about the flames too much and I think given this context a lot of them feeling flat is expected. No need to take pot shots at them from within too

Why is no one more upset with Buffalo? This is an idiotic return and damnit adams you waited a year for some guy called Krebs? If there’s a GM that should get canned over this I know who I would reach out and smite. Crappy morning to be a flames fan but imagine seeing your GM work a trade for a year for this pile of crap

I'm actually quite looking forward to the cap hell Vegas will be in when all their guys return. They'll need to sell more players for pennies on the dollar to make it work. Hope the rest of teams make Vegas pay for it.
I see them trending towards San Jose Sharks. Always a playoff bridesmaid, never the bride. At some point, all these long term contracts are going to come back to bite them in the ass.
