Personally, I don't like the thought of giving up that much when there are few contenders and large risks associated here. I have no problem with Tkachuk included, but if the 1st rounder isn't conditional on Eichel's games played, I think it's a ripoff.
Secondly, given what so many have mentioned about Tkachuk walking after next year (from Buffalo in this case), what are the chances Buffalo flipping him to Las Vegas right after this deal? That would be interesting as he'd fit in perfectly there.

That seems an odd reason to risk further alienating Tkachuk, if in fact the plan is to keep him.

Not sure why Treliving would sell on Monahan at the lowest point in his career.

If it wasn't so heavily invested I would find it very funny how different reporters are claiming different things.

Friedman saying he isn't aware of it means nothing... even if it's a legit leak anyone close to either team is going to deny deny deny.
I don't mind a swap of Tkachuk for Eichel but wouldn't want to see a ton more in the package. Basically resolves the Tkachuk contract issue completely which is going to be a major issue soon.
Tkachuk for Eichel and Johnny re-signing would be the perfect storyline for the flames IMO.

Sorry I don’t care about a 9 game sample size when defining how many points a player has. Tkachuk is our 4th leading scorer now but he is still a critical piece for this team.
I was all for this when Eichel was going to get the surgery and play the full season but I don’t get why we would pay such a ridiculous price when we have to go 40 games without Eichel. So if the deal was Tkachuk+conditional 1st for Eichel then sure but on the radio Steinberg and Nault made it sound like Tkachuk, Valimaki, 1st, Zary, and Pelletier/Wolf
If we are downgrading those prospects significantly and putting protection on the pick it gets better but I don’t think this Flames team can afford to be without one of their best forwards for 40 games.
To me the offer is too rich for this stage of the negotiation so Buffalo better kick in some help right now or we shave that offer down significantly

Yeah, that's it. There was never any actually intent of acquiring Eichel. The only reason the Flames were ever involved was so they could say they tried.
Although, it will be interesting to see what kind of crazy offer Vegas will table that actually beats this one.

Tkachuk led the team in scoring once - the Covid-shortened year, and barely, at that.
Otherwise, he's consistently the 3rd-5th highest scoring player on the team.
You move that for a #1C.

If it was Chucky + a 1st I would do it, but with 3 additional prospects it seems like a steep price to pay for a player who might have neck problems going forward...

The Fan960 guys always seems to want undervalue Flames players. I think when the Tkachuk rumours floated they were happy with Tarensenko as the return or something like that

Would be great if both Calgary and Vegas gave them a deadline and then walk away and leave some egg on Adams face.

It's very obvious that all of the insiders are all the same level of in-the-dark on this one.
They know more or less who's still involved, and beyond that, they are each of them being played.

My guess it's more like: Tkachuk, Valimaki, 1st, one of Zary/Pelletier, one of Ruzicka/Phillips/Poirier/Kuznetzov.
They would need to move out a little more salary than this though, Tkachuk + Valimaki = $8.55M
If true, this is reminding me a little bit of 2008-2010.
Tkachuk is like Phaneuf - fan-favourites, former high 1st round picks, and both once thought of as a future captain. Play in their 4th and 5th seasons not as well-received as their play in their first three seasons and mired with rumours about team issues. Obviously Tkachuk is a much better player and won't be getting booed by the fans in a return game. I think he's been ok to start the season and production has been fine, but something still feels off with him. He's not having that big impact on games like he used to.
Mangiapane is Gio - career underdogs who were both passed over in the draft and kept getting better and better. Fits the culture and identity of what the Flames what to be to a tee.
I like Tkachuk, but along as players like Dube, Mangiapane, Coronato are not also moved, it make this easier to swallow.
