I'm honestly fine losing all the rumoured pieces. Tkachuk's contract is the same problem for us as it is for Buffalo. Havent been impressed with Vlimaki and Kylington turning Brodie 2.0 has made him easier to lose.
The Zarys/Pelletiers/Coronatos of the world are nice, but a proven elite #1 still in his prime is worth any/all of them.
But then the surgery. I hope it works.

That was my first thought. I’ve kind of assumed Tkachuk would be the main piece in a flames offer, but didn’t expect that list of extras.

Yup, if it is Tkachuk, 1st, Valimaki, Zary, and Coronato then it it will suck.
I am just willing Tkachuk, Zadaorov, Philips, and Stromgren into the universe

Also, this rumored package keeps at least 2/3 of Coronato, Zary and Pelletier in the fold.
Those are some reinforcements that could all be in play throughout the year.

Not sure how to feel about this. I think we all knew something had to give on the salary front and Tkachuk was likely the one to go. I would have to know what the other assets are. If it's Tkachuk, Valimaki, conditional first, Phillips, and Ruzicka, then I'm okay with that. Tkachuk has to go and we get a cost controlled high level player in return, so maybe it works out. I would say Buffalo has to be kicking in something else to balance the bodies, so it would be interesting to see the whole deal. Won't believe anything until we see the actual deal, but if that is the offer, Buffalo should take it and run.

So if Buffalo wants an extra 1st ++, here's a way for them to make that happen.
|
They do, if they fit the cap and the team. The only team who paid a first for one player last year was Toronto, and they got a cheaper player. Like I mentioned, Hall, a superior player to Foligno, got a second. With the strength of the next couple drafts, those firsts are going to be harder to acquire.
And yeah, I suppose if Buffalo’s been asking for two firsts like the rumours have been, this is a way they’d get it.
A lot has to do with negotiations with Tkachuk and the Flames’ opinion on his cost and potential of re-signing going forward.

Kylington is better than Brodie...and this is coming from someone who was wrong about Kylington

This trade proposal sounds like something a Buffalo fan boy made up on HFBoards.

I imagine the hot start of Coronato took some of the pressure off keeping, say, Zary.

Re: The valuation of Tkachuk, his QO makes him closer to a UFA, but he's still a very valuable asset.
Tkachuk with a 7 million cap hit, Buffalo retaining 50 percent to make it a 3.5 million cap hit is a solid trade piece. That is a first round pick+ worth of value at the deadline, especailly for a team that can "Kucherov" one of their players until playoffs.

Im not a huge Tkachuk fan but unless he asked out, I wouldn’t trade him. The package seems a bit much.

Yup. Beef up the most important positions.
I love Tkachuk. I think he's going to bounce back and do well. Maybe not 9 million dollar good, but 7-8 million dollar level of play.
But Eichel and Lindholm down the middle plus Markstrom in goal beats the current make up with any combination of good wingers. We've been around the "build around wingers" block too many times. Doesn't work.

Involving Tkachuk just balances the roster in my eyes.
I'd actually hope that Valimaki isn't the former 1st - I think I'd sooner it be Pelletier. I still believe in Juuso...although maybe that's just my brain ignoring what's being played out in front of us and Kylington grabbing the role that was up for grabs and seemingly not looking back.
Pull the trigger on this deal, and then lock-up Johnny and Mang? I like it.

100%. In 4 months. Protection on the pick is key for me.
I'd rather lose Tkachuk than Mangi in this deal.
