Just to add to Enoch's two counters points, isn't this just exactly what the team has been wanting him to do all this time? Yes. Kylington forced the team's hand and he gets all the credit for doing so. But the fact remains that this is different from any other season of his career, and he definitely does not deserve credit for doing something he didn't do all that time he struggled on the ice game after game.

I think the difference between you and me is that I am happy to give credit where it is due: Good for Kylington, for making it impossible for the team to keep him out of the lineup. Good for the Flames managers and coaches, who saw all the potential and were patient with him all these years.

Does that patience include putting him on waivers?

Yes. Do you honestly think that teams put players on waivers without knowing whether or not they will be claimed? I suspect it happens, but it is something that occurs so rarely it is likely very surprising when it does. I sincerely believe that the Flames were comfortable waiving Kylington because they were completely convinced that he was sailing through.

And they were right.

Again, the evidence is on their side.

He showed no sign that he was ready for a top-4 role. The defensive awareness and quick decision-making just weren't there yet. That's where he is different this year.

The idea that Kylington did all these things this offseason that he never did in past offseasons because only Sutter was capable of telling him is a tad ridiculous.
Several players have specifically praised Sutter for telling them in their exit interviews exactly what their roles were going to be and what he wanted them to work on over the summer. So no, it's not a tad ridiculous. It's a matter of public record.

Back to the game....

I see another strong game by the Flames leading to a 3-1 win.

Go Flames Go!

The evidence is that he was placed on waivers and they were more comfortable with losing him vs. any other option. You can't know what 30 other teams will do but yes statistically, most players on waivers do clear.

IMO that is far from giving up on him.

I am also confident is pleasant surprise within the organization at how well he is playing right now.

He's an absolute master of managing expectations, downplaying when one would up, and up when one would downplay. No media in any market has ever managed to trip him up or lock him into an answer.

Some new JFresh cards for the bottom pairing guys. This is all the data from last year plus YTD changes this season. You can see the total GP near the top.

Of note, every single Flames player who goes on the PK have seen a massive jump in their WAR contributions from penalty killing. The PK is just killing it for the Flames so far.

For the record there is no card for Oliver Kylington right now which is very depressing.

Absolutely, sorry I didn’t make my point clear. I agree with you completely

Some good nuggets in that Darryl clip.

Richardson is healthy and able to play. He's a healthy scratch at this point.
The Gudbranson comment sure implies this head coach has a heavy hand in personnel decisions.
And talk about a guy who looks like he belongs behind the wheel of a combine. Darryl Sutter is western Canada incarnate and was born to lead this team.

All he needs is to swap the Flames cap for a faded khaki one with a John Deere logo.
