He has elite skills.

Abbreviated seasons didn’t help. Each game mattered more and even when Sutter took over he had a very short window to try and get the team in
I don’t know that we need to stress too much on how to assign blame and instead be happy with the fact he’s taken a step

I was wondering that as well and if the Flames weren't being a bit coy last year knowing an expansion draft was coming.
I did notice 1 turnover last night by him though that resulted in a pretty good scoring chance but overall Kylington's been good.

Lots of people praising Sutter but last year Sutter stapled him to the bench as well as first 2 games this season. I think some are giving Sutter too much praise.
If I had to guess what has changed this season and I know this is totally baseless but I think Sutter asked Tanev who he liked to play with and got a glowing review from him.

He's finally playing well consistently because he's finally playing consistently because he's not finding himself in the pressbox after every mistake.
I'm amazed at how many people choose to forget the HIGH calibre of play Kylington gave us for months right before his two or so not-great weeks in January 2019 that made Treliving think acquiring Fantenberg was a good idea. He was every bit this good, and while he was playing third pair, so was his partner Andersson and they were YOUNG for an NHL pair. And the Kylington-Prout pair was highly effective despite the fact that Dalton Prout was no Chris Tanev.
Kylington's past "errors" have always been so beyond overblown.
He's a high event player, who lost confidence the last handful of years because the coaches buried him and neutered him.
Now he getting a legitimate chance at regular icetime with an appropriate partner (and it's been a mutually beneficial pairing!) and doing exactly what he was capable of doing fifty games ago.
Even Rasmus Andersson had this to say about getting regular shifts just a few days ago:
Kylington HAS made mistakes in this stretch of games. Even directly responsible for some goals.
The difference is how the coach responds to them.
At no point in his career has he been a liability, yet he's been treated as such. Which is asinine. Even last year, look at our record when Kylington played versus when he didn't play. But all people wanted to focus on was this misplay at the blueline or this moment where he lost an edge.

His agility walking the line is a huge asset. He has been able to keep plays alive that most offensive dman can’t or most dmen could never dream of. He’s a really skilled and sublime skater. He’s even looking really physically ready for the grind of being a dman. He doesn’t hit to hurt but he can take a hit on the forecheck.
He has really brought an awesome dimension to our dcorps. We don’t have much behind him but man imagine this dcorps without him.
I can’t believe we let this guy hit waivers.

Pretty typical defenceman development. He’s 24.

I guess we can thank the press box. Valamaki sure got his chances out of the gate though.

I don’t see how anyone can claim that being around the team, practicing with them every day, observing game play and strategy from a birds eye view after practice, and working daily with the coaching staff, doesn’t contribute to development. How does that make any sense?

Maybe you haven’t played sports at a high level but in game experience you can not recreate. I don’t really care but the guy got buried.

You know what contributes profoundly more to playing hockey?
Playing hockey.

Of course. I wouldn’t debate that either. It’s called development. Again, he’s 24. He’s played over 100 NHL games.

If that was the case wouldn’t he opt to play with Hanifin?

Do you think when Sutter stapled him to the bench for half the season he was here last year contributed to him playing better or not?

Nice Halloween reference there - that was an awesome mistype (if it was).

I do not.
I think Sutter made the wrong decision to go with Nesterov and Valimaki last year, and far had too short a leash on Kylington.
I also think Sutter made the wrong decision to have Bennett play LW on a line with Ryan and Ritchie while Monahan was clearly hurt and we needed a top two line centre.
But I do give Sutter a slight pass on these things because he didn't have a training camp and he was taking over for the incompetent Ward.
