Default Let's talk about: Oliver Kylington

I mean, wow. Borderline waiver fodder cast-off to this? Along with Markstrom returning to form, he might be the biggest single difference this year.

The D was scary to me before the season, but with Gudbranson being more than competent and Kylington turning into this, it's become a serious strength. Sign the extension now!

No, but if this year panned out for him like last I could see a trade request happening before the trade deadline.

Somewhat but he seems to really get along with the group and is always more than happy to talk to the media.

If ever he does sign long term he also proves as an example for the young players to not give up. Kylington had some major flaws in his defensive game when drafted and now look at him. What a great surprise.

Now let’s give Valimaki his time to develop and be patient. Most Dmen need time to do so, the Makar’s and Fox’s are the exception.

He was the player I was always worried about losing in expansion.

It sucks to lose Gio but this is what happens when teams have a guy like Ryan Huska developing players to make the most of an opportunity.

he's always had the skillset, but it took some time to figure it out on a consistent basis. I'm glad he's finally getting a real opportunity and good on him for taking full advantage of that. Super happy for him, I hope it continues.

I am not surprised to see him thrive under a structured system that Sutter has put in place. I love that he has the skillset and now the team execution can be anticipated his instincts are coming into play. Love it.

Tanev’s involvement in his success cannot be overstated.

This was a guy that everyone was pulling for but he never seemed to be able to make that next step. So awesome to see him succeeding this year!

Criminally under used by previous coaches.

Lots of Swedish support too which can only help. I liked that clip of Markstrom talking to him after the 2 on 1 the other game. They said last night on the broadcast that Markstrom was pumpkin Kylington up, in Swedish, for making a great read.

Everyone saying he wasn't used properly by coaches and previous management but to me he has been developed properly.

Remember when he couldn't play defence? I do. He was horrible defensively even in the AHL and was a river boat gambler. Flames told him to work on that part of his game and he did.

Let's give his previous coaches some praise as well and not just his D partner of 5 games. That really isn't fair.

That’s a lot of coaches to blame. More like, he’s finally playing well consistently, with fewer of the mistakes that typically landed him in the press box.

Everyone could see all the tools were there, you will make”mistakes” like anyone else. Being buried in the press box doesn’t make you better.

He has elite skills.

I’m really happy he’s playing much better this year but you can’t expect previous coaches to have kept him in the lineup in the hope he’d “figure it out.” That’s what the AHL is for and it’s looking like his time in the minors has served him and the team well.

Always been a fan. He was projected as a high first so I was ecstatic we snagged him in R2.

Very pleased obviously with what he’s shown this year, and frankly the Flames desperately needed that.
