All this talk about players not wanting to play in Calgary. One of the best coaches in the game right in our backyard and wants to be here.

First coach since Hartley who has had any success whatsoever in the NHL. Yeah coaching seems like it matters.

Yes, Coleman in particular has been a solid addition. My point was more that the entire internet, and this board in particular, was going on about how much worse the Flames would be this year with the loss of Gio and how badly Treliving had failed in the offseason.

Last year's team had a deeper game1 roster easily, if not for the whole Ward thing. Even factoring in Mony's injury, Sutter with a training camp could probably have given us:

Hanifin-Andersson
Kylington-Tanev
Giordano-Valimaki

Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk
Mangiapane-Bennett-Dube
Monahan-Backlund-Nordstrom
Lucic-Ryan-Ritchie

Unless you subscribe to the whole "Kylington got better by sitting in the pressbox for 50 games" thing.

Edmonton goes against the very essence of ice hockey.. that it's a team game.

Another good game by Jacob Markstrom, played well again. Three shutouts in 4 games!
Good to see Sean Monahan with a goal and an assist tonight.
Flames big players all stepped up tonight, Johnny, Tkachuk and Backlund.

Backlund is not a player that will miss an empty net.

Not for nothing but missing wide open nets is Backlunds nom de plume.

I subscribe to the whole ‘Kylington got better by having Sutter tell him what to work on in the off season, and then doing it’ thing.

He was not the player a year ago that he is now.

IDK, score effects...sure they gave up 45 shots but they had 35. Wasn't dominant but tie goes to the team up 4-0

Pittsburgh was shooting a bunch from outside, didn’t have a lot of super great chances either.

And score effects.

We dominated that game 100%

Well I’m so happy to admit I might have been wrong about this team. So good to see vintage Sutter Flames again. Might cry some tears of joy!

Feels similar to the 18/19 season to me, except this time we don’t have a coach that’s going to turn into stunned mullet in the playoffs.

This makes me happy.

I don’t think there’s a team in the league that has had such a bitter soft schedule to start the season. It’s astounding how far removed from reality Oiler fans can be.

shoutout to Sean Monahan: had his best game of the season tonight, very easily could've had 2 or 3 goals

wouldn't it be something if he hit 20 goals again this year after everyone (myself included) came pretty close to writing him off entirely

Fully agree... The fact that they're coddled in the media for this fact instead of facing non stop criticism is an embarrassment for the traditional media's unbiased integrity.

I guess that's why most of us go to bloggers and here for news.

After he left LA and was at home on the farm...I was fearful the oilers management would smarten up and they'd hire the rancher in their own backyard. Luckily that timeline never came to fruition.
