I have to disagree, I think the new additions have also been a factor. Not sure last season's team would be doing as well as the current team.
Yes, Coleman in particular has been a solid addition. My point was more that the entire internet, and this board in particular, was going on about how much worse the Flames would be this year with the loss of Gio and how badly Treliving had failed in the offseason.

Last year's team had a deeper game1 roster easily, if not for the whole Ward thing. Even factoring in Mony's injury, Sutter with a training camp could probably have given us:
Another good game by Jacob Markstrom, played well again. Three shutouts in 4 games!
Good to see Sean Monahan with a goal and an assist tonight.
Flames big players all stepped up tonight, Johnny, Tkachuk and Backlund.
Backlund is not a player that will miss an empty net.

Not for nothing but missing wide open nets is Backlunds nom de plume.

Coleman and Pitlick...that line is ridiculous 5 on 5
Says the fan of the team with 4/6 wins against Arizona, Anaheim, and Vancouver.
I don’t think there’s a team in the league that has had such a bitter soft schedule to start the season. It’s astounding how far removed from reality Oiler fans can be.

That right there (among other reasons), is also why Calgary is an infinitely more likeable team than Edmonton.
No me-first ####, double-shifting, 30 minute nights on this team.
Everybody contributes, and everybody plays a role.
Edmonton goes against the very essence of ice hockey.. that it's a team game.
Fully agree... The fact that they're coddled in the media for this fact instead of facing non stop criticism is an embarrassment for the traditional media's unbiased integrity.
I guess that's why most of us go to bloggers and here for news.
I was thinking that Darryl Sutter just looks like the Flames head coach.
Anyone else know what I mean?
After he left LA and was at home on the farm...I was fearful the oilers management would smarten up and they'd hire the rancher in their own backyard. Luckily that timeline never came to fruition.
