1. Made up nonsense? Seems like a plausible scenario to me. The question isn’t would Buffalo want Tkachuk, it is why would Tkachuk want to sign long term in Buffalo? Aside from maybe Arizona, is there a team with a more grim outlook than Buffalo?
2. Why would Buffalo want to inherit that situation? Seems like made up nonsense to me.

Unless Johnny and Tkachuk were willing to sign for $9M or less, Mangiapane at $6M or less and they dump Monahan, Lucic, and Backlunds contracts they could make it work but I don’t see all of that falling into place.
I think Tkachuk would be traded at the draft to a team he was willing to sign with long term

Why would we trade tkachuck or any other player not involved in the Eichel deal to Buffalo. There is a whole league that would be interested in tkachucks services. Most would likely pay way more than Buffalo.
If you are suggesting trading chucky for eichel now...they makes no sense from the perspective of flames management. They are not risking playoffs this season...especially in light of what Montreal did last year. Not saying it's right...its just not happening.

Even that leaves you $2 million or so over your cap hit this year, plus you're short two forwards. Maybe the cap goes up next year but I don't see how it's possible.
The team would have to say goodbye to Tkachuk or Gaudreau.

I’m suggesting the opposite, it makes no sense for the Flames to include Tkachuk, nor do I think Buffalo would want him due to his contract situation and the likelihood of him leaving Buffalo, one way or another, within a year/year and a half

I think the only way I would be mad that a deal fell through is if it came to light that Buffalo would take Tkachuk in deal and Tre said no. I personally don’t think Buffalo wants the headache of trying to sign Tkachuk . I also think it’s going to be a very hard contract negotiation for Calgary to pull off .

The poster on HF who claims to be the insider seems to think Buffalo is really pushing for one of Mangiapane or Dube and if that is the case does it make sense to sell high on Mangiapane considering Dube is cost controlled until some of these big cap hits are off the books so it takes one huge negotiation for this summer off the table.

Good bye to Monahan and zadorov would cover Eichel.
Still need to find money for Johnny, Tkachuk and Mangi

Very difficult. Would need to trade Monahan without bringing back any salary (covers mangiapane’s raise and some of Eichel’s salary). Also need Lucic to retire or have to trade another player near his salary such as backlund without taking any salary back (should cover gaudreau’s raise and tkachuck’s raise). Even then I don’t see it being enough.
Currently (just focusing on players that could potentially be moved or need new contracts):
Tkachuk: $7,000,000
Gaudreau: $6,750,000
Monahan: $6,375,000
Backlund: $5,350,000
Lucic: $5,250,000
Mangiapane: $2,425,000
Zadorov: $3,750,000
TOTAL: $36,900,000
Next year:
Eichel: $10,000,000
Tkachuk: $9,000,000
Gaudreau: $9,000,000
Monahan: Traded
Backlund: $5,350,000
Lucic: Retired
Mangiapane: $6,000,000
Zadorov: gone
TOTAL: $39,350,000
I know there are other players to consider such as gudbranson and stone being UFAs that could leave but the team has to fill their spots with other players and they have to re-sign Kylington this year… and if he keeps playing like he is he will be due a good raise.

Just tell Adams that we’re competing this year and can’t subtract another roster player in addition to Monahan. Trade Mangiapane and we’d lose one of our best players. Trade Dube and we’d lose two of our top four centers in the deal
Assuming the rest of the package is the 2022 1st, Monahan, Zary, and 2022 2nd that was discussed - Treliving is probably pushing to offer one of Pelletier, Valimaki, or maybe another 1st as the final piece. If Buffalo still says no to all of these, I’d begrudgingly give up Dube. Hoping that Treliving is waiting for Vegas to make their best offer before he makes his final one that would beat it

I think he would to get out of 4th line duty and get a fresh start.
Sutter has really emphasized how much he likes having speed down the middle and I don’t see him playing higher then any of Lindholm, Backlund, Dube. Love the guy but it almost feels like he doesn’t belong here anymore.

Just ignore this guy, he clearly is not a Flames fan and is trying to stir the pot with his negative bs.

Eyeroll. There’s only so many asset permutations you can negotiate around, to have it take this long is straight up bizarre. If I was Eichel I would 1,000% be filing a grievance.
Hey Buffalo- if you’re not getting what you think he’s worth, maybe he just isn’t worth what you think he’s worth? Like newsflash, he’s worth what the market will pay and it isn’t getting better for you. So dumb.
|
Indeed. Looking for a kings ransom where there isn't any. And holding out 3 months evidently doesn't make it appear out of thin air. This is what happens when you walk yourself into a corner because of your own doing. When you operate that way and lose the player you also lose your leverage. Bite the bullet and do the kid a solid - the return only gets worse from here.

I still think Monahan would be flipped to a third team likely with some salary retained by Buffalo to get more picks and prospects.
Valimaki, Zary, 1st, 2nd, and whatever they get for Monahan hopefully is enough to get it done.

That or Buffalo is not on his 10 team no trade list…
