Eichel going to Vegas would be the death of the Western Conference for years to come

The only issue is the tweet came from the source of the news, the website he owns. The biggest piece of "news" is this will be resolved in a few days.

Can't help but think that buffalo leaked this to try and squeeze better offers out.

You couldn’t dream up a clearer indicator that he is not up to the task.
You are ridiculously over-committed to a single-outcome event.

Jack Eichel is not the only way to improve the team.

Mark Stone - $9.5M
Alex Pietrangelo - $8.8M
Max Pacioretty - $7.8M
William Karlsson - $5.9M
Alec Martinez - $5.25M
Shea Theodore - $5.2M
Robin Lehner - $5M
Jonathan Marchesault - $5M
Evengo Dadonov - $5M
Alex Tuch - $4.75M

That's $62.2M. Add in Eichel and that becomes $72.2M on 11 players. They have anther 7.675 committed to another four payers. That's $80M on 15 players. Then they have seven players coming up to RFA contracts. This is not doable would the Sabres taking on a BIG salary, and those salaries all have NTC clauses. I don't know how they can make this work, even if Eichel's contract is off the books for the whole year. There would have to be some serious shenanigans going on for this to magically work out.
Pacioretty is on LTIR and only has a year left after this year.
Stone might be heading to LTIR.

Next year, Vegas would lose Smith and Janmark, big whoop.

None of the forwards that are playing are even making $6 mill.
On defense, only Pietrangelo makes more than 5.250 mill.

Theodore, Marchessault, Karlsson and Lehner all have great contracts.

If anything, they're in a better cap situation than the Flames, who will still be paying guys like Coleman and Markstrom in many many years. Tkachuk can become a UFA in a year. Gaudreau at the end of this season. Monahan is overpaid, Backlund makes more than almost all of Vegas's forwards that are playing.

Buffalo would have to take on a ####ton of cap.

But given their respective situations, crazier things have happened.

If the Flames can't get him, then Vegas is the next best option. Anything that helps limit the chances of edmonton winning anything is a big plus in my book.

Who doesn’t have a NTC in Vegas? Assume Tuch and maybe Dandonov going the other way

But he is the only 24 year old 0.95 PPG centre currently available, and we can have him if we pay for him.

It’s Joe Thornton all over again.

Not that I’ve been plodding through the Eichel crap but, has it been said that a big carrot for Jack should be to play about 10 games a year against the guy he said he could’ve been taken first over all for? It would be a hell of an ego stroke to stick it to McDavid year in and year out. Such a massive opportunity for him to prove his mettle as it were.

Title is kind of misleading. It doesn’t say Vegas is the front runner. He basically just says, Vegas is a team to watch. He also states they’ve been in close contact the last 3-5 days. So have the Flames.

They would have to involve a 3rd team. Trade salary away to a team not on the NTC, then that teams sends additional assets (and possible cap dump) to BUF. I agree it would be difficult but GM's seem to find a way.

If Vegas caves and offers Krebs + Hague + 2022 1st round pick (top 5 protected) + Smith… what would the flames need to do to beat that offer?

He'll be making 10 mil a year playing in Vegas and having a legit chance to win. I'm sure he'd be fine.

NRD posting some tweets that seem to be pointing to Vegas making an offer that has changed things recently.
