Media guys are wrong with posts like this, more often than right. But the good news is that we will (hopefully) find out, one way or the other, very soon.

In some ways, I hope he does end up in Vegas, so that, when they don't win a cup, maybe people will realize that winning a cup isn't about acquiring one player (or maybe they won't realize, who am I kidding?).

Calgary makes more sense for Buffalo IMO. I bet they're still right there and this is a last bit of posturing. My intuition says that neither LV or CGY are about to cave and that Buffalo will simply pick their preferred offer. I think that ends with eichel as a flame. If LVK caves and offers an untouchable, they can have him. Eichel only makes sense at a certain price. Hope BT is steady at the wheel here and doesn't overreact.

This is also how you spur on a last minute bidding war.

Vegas and Buffalo could very well be a distance apart on something crucial. Could be a power move to try to get Tre and others to give up that extra piece.

Just watched the clip and I think the tweet is a tad misleading. Not once does Seravalli say they’re the favourites, just that they’ve increased their talks in the last few days and are a team to watch as this unfolds. Never once says they’re the front runner or the favourite. IMO that’s up to interpretation.

He also says the Knights may be hesitant because they’re unsure of the status of Mark Stone.

There really isn’t much new in that clip.

I never said it isn't relevant. I don't think it was a mistake. It just gets brought forward that we could have had Stone - yes we could have for a few games at the end of a season and a playoff series. He signs in Vegas anyways the next season. Trading a blue chip prospect for a rental was and remains too much.

Saying he needs to pull the trigger fails to appreciate that one of the primary criticisms of Treliving is that he has been a poor steward of drafts picks and past or emerging prospects (others being coaching hires and goalie). Perhaps that is not your criticism of Treliving.

With the benefit of hindsight, I still think Treliving was correct in not making that move.

If Vegas gets Eichel, he will be there for a decade.

Not a single asset we possess is worth dealing with that.

Get it done, Treliving, or don’t bother coming into work the day after. Someone will mail you the contents of your office.

Was going to post this. Thanks. I was still trying to figure out how they manage $19 million on injured reserve and fit it when those can come back.

Well, that phone call was different, and actually about helping a players' public situation, so in that instance I was actually of help and requested to be spoken with by Tre.

This would be a completely different situation but hey, to each their own

Time to put in that final offer and close the deal.

This sounds like it is nearing its conclusion with Vegas and Calgary being the known teams. Yesterday it comes out Calgary is in it the most and today Vegas is the front runner.

In my opinion this is the highest risk but the highest reward of players that are going to be available in this window for the Flames. Sutter is here for his last ride, they are all in with their franchise goalie, they have a big decision to make with key forwards and there has been a desperate cry to shake things up.

Eichel is a soon to be 25 year old locked up for term. If he comes back healthy he could be a guy that is a top 5 team player in the game. The game changer the Flames have been missing.

This is how news works now.

One guys says maybe they are potentially involved, talks heating up.

A secondary news source takes that out of context and says they’re maybe the favourites.

Someone else takes the summarized tweet of the clip and edits it a little further to summarize.

Next thing you know someone will be tweeting they they have heard from “multiples sources” that Eichel to VGK is all but done.

Man I hope he goes to Vegas. I really don't want the Flames to be holding that 50m stick of dynamite when it explodes.

I'm a little relieved to be honest. I just don't like the core of this team and would rather keep the picks that will be needed to build the next core.

I think the tweet that got everyone hot and bothered in Calgary about being the front runner for Eichel was taken out of context. Friedman basically said Calgary and Vegas are interested (the tweet didn’t mention Vegas) and it wasn’t like Friedman was optimistic a deal was close. It was a basic update that got a bunch of us here (myself included) and people on Twitter/HF that the Flames could get it done

You couldn’t dream up a clearer indicator that he is not up to the task.

Don't know how Jack Eichel fits in the Vegas cap situation. Looking at the numbers and players they have signed beyond this season.

Mark Stone - $9.5M
Alex Pietrangelo - $8.8M
Max Pacioretty - $7.8M
William Karlsson - $5.9M
Alec Martinez - $5.25M
Shea Theodore - $5.2M
Robin Lehner - $5M
Jonathan Marchesault - $5M
Evengo Dadonov - $5M
Alex Tuch - $4.75M

That's $62.2M. Add in Eichel and that becomes $72.2M on 11 players. They have anther 7.675 committed to another four payers. That's $80M on 15 players. Then they have seven players coming up to RFA contracts. This is not doable would the Sabres taking on a BIG salary, and those salaries all have NTC clauses. I don't know how they can make this work, even if Eichel's contract is off the books for the whole year. There would have to be some serious shenanigans going on for this to magically work out.
