Sutter’s presser was another beauty that has a lot in it for CP. About Vladar’s play and not being too fussed by goals from good spots by good shooters; about starting Vladar (nice shutdown of Francis); about little things he still needs from Kylington.

I wish people would ask things about Tkachuk, overall line makeup philosophy, etc.

I don't agree
Absolutely he did. He took the outside man against the boards and not the more dangerous guy who wound up with the puck.

Sutter speaks to Francis the way most Flames fans wish we could speak to Francis.

“Some people were surprised to see Vladar play tonight”

“I wasn’t surprised…”

Wilson wasn’t going anywhere and was looking to drop it back anyways, and a Kylington took himself out of the play and left thst lane wide open.
Under Darryl, when a player has a good game, he won't say he had a good game; he will point out some play where the player could have been better. Even when other players on that particular play didn't step up like they should have.

We all need to learn Darryl-speak.

This is what I mean about players (including Kylington) not doing things that coaches maybe have asked but we as outsiders don’t necessarily know or notice. For all I know that play has been practiced and he didn’t play it according to the coaching he’s received. So then his partner ends up looking like the goat.

A great game with an exciting finish. A nice hatty, and a milestone from Johnny.

Yeah I didn't necessarily agree with Sutter's Kylington take on the second goal either. He's not wrong that a zone play there might have been the better read, but he eliminated the Capital player driving the wing and at some point you have to trust that your teammates are picking guys up too. Oh well.

I did like hearing that Sutter wasn't surprised that Vladar was starting today. Coach is dialed in!

Pretty sure Darryl knows what the dman is supposed to do in that situation. It is his Stanley Cup winning system.

Eric doesn't ask questions. He knows what he wants to hear and Sutter won't do that for him. Must drive Eric crazy.

Well Wilson wasn’t really driving the wing, he didn’t enter with a lot of speed and then fumbled the puck and had no options to pass outside of probably dumping it back to the guy who scored.

What's the deal with the Mantha kick? Was it actually a kick?

For sure had Kylington stayed in his lane playing a zone position then he would have had a play on the goal scorer, so I don't think Sutter was wrong per se, but how often in every game do you see the defenseman take the winger carrying the puck into the boards and eliminate him? It's probably the play made in most cases.

I think on that play that more of the blame rests with the other Flames who weren't picking up guys.

I thought the exact same thing on the 2nd goal..

Kylington made the wrong read.

But we shouldn’t jump all over every mistake players like him and Valimaki make.

They will have some bumps in the road. We need to embrace that fact and let them play through it.

It’s the only way they will build confidence and get better.

Not jumping on him, but clears up what the coach sees. People here in the GT were jumping on Monahan or Tanev to take the blame for the scorer having so much time.

I guess the part that gets missed is that Darryl is trying to make Kylington a better player. Now is the best time for Kylington to learn these things if he is going to become a much better player with his skill set.

What a great hockey game.

Flames battled hard the whole game, Capitals punched back after a poor start and the good guys pulled it out in OT. Brilliance!

...the fact that Mangiapane and Lindholm have scored 9 of our 11 goals (and 1 of the other 2 goals is an EN) is a tad concerning...

That makes no sense. Why would Sutter point it out if he thought Kylington made the right play? Unless you think you know better than Sutter and how he wants them to play in those situations?

It floors me that people stick with their narratives even after one of the best coaches in the league points it out.
