Tanev and Zadorov:

vs RNH: TOI: 4:25, 100% Corsi For, 100% xGF, 0 GF, 0 GA
vs Ryan: TOI: 5.09, 28.5% Corsi For, 4.0% xGF%, 0 GF, 1 GA
vs McLeod: TOI: 1:42, 75% Corsi For, 85.5% xGF%, 0 GF, 0 GA

So it was really that they had a really, really bad shift against the Ryan line most likely, and that likely ended up in his goal (I missed the 1st period so didn't see that goal).

Edit: Was curious so I looked at the shift results chart.

On the shift where Ryan scored it was Backlund, Lewis, Lucic, Tanev, Zadorov against Ryan, Foegele, Kassian, Ceci, Keith.

On that shift it was 0 xGF, 0.3 xGA (which is huge for one shift). For the game they were 0.27 xGF, 0.79 xGA. So most of the issues were on that single shift.
Which is why single game stats are a waste of time

Also, it matters SIGNIFICANTLY who the forward lines are, both for and against. If you're the D pair for a bad matchup, you're going to have bad numbers.

Sutter is asked about Kylington in his pre-game availability:
-Kylington practices really hard and uses his skillset in practice
-he still needs to get the glaring mistakes that lead to dangerous chances against
-he's been fine
-he told everyone that there are 8 defensemen on the team and that there isn't enough to choose between all of them
-some of them have different skillsets
-Kylington is going to get to play
Sutter also already planting the underdog seed into his team's minds by answering the question from the reporter about the dangers of playing a rebuilding team by saying that they're a team that missed the playoffs, just like the Flames and are the same. Love it.

Zadorov made a multitude of unforced giveaways from behind his net to random Oilers players. It wasn't a matchup thing, it was just a playing poorly thing.

He was very much the worst Flame player that game, and I'm not talking about the goal against where Puljujarvi split the D.

I'm most excited to be not playing a Canadian team again. Weird to think that, but those divisions sucked last year and I hope we never see that again.

When was the last time CGY won a home opener? Did they break that little curse lately? I can't recall.

I think Calgary have been fine with home openers...they always start on the road

Yeah small sample sizes reek havok on statistics but it's also not necessarily a waste of time...like anything you need to take the time to understand the context of why the stats are telling the story they are telling.

They won the home opener last season. The Flames are on a 4 game home opener win streak.

This.

Thank Joe Thornton's ####ing beard.

Never thought I'd be so fatigued from facing Canadian foes. We need to go get our mojo back playing American teams, then come back and assert our dominance over the likes of the Oilers, Jets and Canucks.

So maybe if they started us at home for once, we're have bucked that first game curse by now?

I try not to crap on players after one game, but I sure noticed his inability to make a clean exit pass last game. There were 2 or three times where there was no pressure on him and he made a terrible pass. Really hope he can clean that up.

You’d think after making them wait almost a week longer than most teams, they could have given them a home game.

Anaheim is 0-3 in their last 3 in Calgary., allowing 14 goals.

Maybe too optimistic, for this thread?

I debated before submitting.
