I think caution is definitely warranted with an Eichel trade.
The Erik Karlsson trade is a good example of what can go wrong in trading for an injured player.

Plus only 5 years left on his contract and he's what, 24? This team isn't good enough right now. Jump on it. Whats the worst that could happen?

Eichel was ranked the 6th best center in the NHL before last season. There is injury risk but I think some are downplaying his talent or just don't know.
Him. Gaudreau, and Tkachuk could be a #1 line at the Olympics let alone for the Flames.

Even harder now to do deals. I'd consider his value less them Seguin.

IMO it’s too soon for Buffalo to be pushing the panic button. His no move is not a time bomb. And I don’t believe acquiring teams are placing much value on Eichel’s services this year so the shrinking term isn’t too big a deal.
Maybe teams are lowering their offers but I doubt it.

Buffalo's ask was for the equivalent of four first round picks. This is guess out of nowhere, but what I think Tre has offered and refuses to budge on :
Monahan (people are down on him in this forum, but he is worth an early first. He will be missed when he is gone here, and is only 26)
Valimaki (former firsts with good progression improve their value. He is worth a pick in the early teens.)
Pelletier (another good progression from where he was drafted. Worth late teens.)
2023 first (top three protected. I'm guessing this year, because the top two picks are monsters, but the 2022 draft is stronger.)
So, there is Tre's offer, and the reason Buffalo has not bitten is because of the protection on the 1st. But in the last week it has been rumoured that Adams is willing to consider protection. Of course this is all speculation, and my guess is exactly that, but I'd be happy with Tre sticking to his guns and Adams eventually coming around.

Protection on the 1st is a sticking point. So is the inclusion of Valimaki, I think. BUF has 2 young stud d-men ( Sandin & Power) and likely wants Mangiapane or Dube instead.

There's a little problem called the Cap you're neglecting. Those 4 AND Tkachuk??? to clear space for Eichel??? Otherwise we're not allowed to be 8 million over the cap.

A large portion of his ankle had to be removed prior to the trade. He wasn’t the same after.

A part of Eichels neck is being replaced...he may not be the same after. I agree that it's unlikely, but the original point is valid. My perception of risk has certainly changed now that the UFC fighters return date has been significantly extended...

Eichel doesn’t care who he gets traded to because after whichever surgery he gets he will be forced to quit playing. That’s my prediction. Sure the surgery has a pretty good chance of success and will allow you to live a NORMAL life. But playing a physical game like hockey? He appears to be willing to forgo 10 mil a year to get the surgery he thinks he needs and is probably terrified… I know I would be. Once he gets the surgery, whichever one, and he starts having any issues , which he will. He will ride off into the sunset with his paycheques on LTIR . I’m wondering, for those who can’t see this , have you ever had a serious disc problem in the neck ? Which is the absolute last place you want a disc issue? Take off your rose coloured glasses. He’s done. Finished. That’s my take on this whole thing.

I don't agree with you...but I can't refute that on the spectrum of outcomes...this is a reasonable one.

Good morning.
I had disc replacement surgery a number of years ago, though for myself it was in my lower back. That said, my surgeon advised during one of our consults that one of his patients who had similar surgery returned to rodeo bull riding. So it is possible to return to physical and demanding activity, though it’s certainly not to suggest it’s a lock for anyone nor a guarantee.
Your concerns and predictions are absolutely valid all the same and could just as easily prove correct.
Take care

I doubt there is a huge concern that Eichel wont be able to play again, though i do believe the timeline is extremely unknown at this point.
I think there is a huge concern that he doesnt come back as the same dynamic player he has shown at times in the past. That has to be considered in any deal that any team might make.
This isnt selling the farm for a young healthy Eric Lindros, this is more like acquiring a guy who might be a ppg guy again but also is just as likely to be a 50 pt guy. One that will be owed 40 Million dollars after this season....no matter how he is/plays.
I think its more than reasonable that teams are being ultra careful on this decision and even with them getting a peek at his current medicals, they might still have reservations based on what their own doctors are telling them.
Trading away 1sts and young players is a HUGE risk at any time, never mind when the return is both an unknown quantity AND a massive expense post trade.

Didn't see this "rumor" posted, and perhaps it's just a re-hash of other recent reports and discussion, but this one in particular seemed quite bullish on the Flames being a legit contender in the Eichel sweepstakes:

Since news came out that there was progress finally being made on the Jack Eichel trade front, one team has started to emerge as a legit landing spot.
The Calgary Flames reportedly went after Eichel hard during the summer, but like all other teams eventually backed off. Could they be the under the radar team that gets this deal done?
