Them clearly reading burns off a script they worked on for hours while trying to mimic Rome's cadence is so cringe...I can actually feel myself wincing in the car when I hear it. I always have to flip the channel when that starts, my 2nd hand embarrassment for the callers is too much.
I totally agree. The Smack Off and the folks calling in were so cringey, I usually just turn to another station when they are on. I actually don't mind Rome otherwise. I get that his stuff is real repetitive, and he has a lot of dead air, but I guess that's his quirk. Once past that, it's not too bad. Admittedly, I probably haven't listened to Rome in 5+ years though lol. Is it still the same jokes? Does he still have that 911 Emergency! bit or the MJ Adult Alarm?

Yeah you gotta listen daily, as it's so many inside jokes and callback references. Rome's show always seems kinda weird to me when I just tune in sporadically, but when I listen daily it's hilarious.

And agreed that Rome is also good for breaking up the otherwise essentially all day hockey talk 960 can do, for those who feel there isn't enough sports variety on there. Especially as someone who's a diehard NFL fan like myself.

I know local 960 hosts talk NFL sometimes too, but it's usually through the prism of fantasy football (Steinberg/afternoon hosts), or gambling/point spread Vegas style stuff (morning show). I retired from FF and don't gamble so I don't want to view it through that lens, I'm just a classic style fan of the league that gets into the playoff races & storylines, and Rome supplies that.

Serious question, why doesn't someone on CP start one? Guarantee would get more listeners than fan960. Doesn't have to be a huge show or even a 24 hour station even 4-6 hours a day with some local advertisements.
You should start a DVD rental store too while you are at it!

I figured I would just put this here because this place was where I got my start in a lot of ways ...

Anyway. Today is my first day writing about hockey in a full-time position for FlamesNation, JetsNation, and WingsNation.

https://twitter.com/user/status/1443656787433951257

Thank you all for reading my stuff over the years and helping me get to the point where I'm actually able to comfortably support myself with a job covering hockey. Still feels a little surreal but I'm very thankful for all of you.

Mike

Congratulations Scorp. I always enjoy reading your input, and have certainly noticed you polishing your craft. Just say no to anything Coiler related. Could you imagine?

No — NHL Live is very useful — but I'm hopeful I'll be able to get back to the Saddledome press box on a few occasions this season.

Pat just said that even though there have been "rumblings" about Overtime being cancelled, something is in the works.
