It's great hearing other people's experiences with these people running in the election. I didn't have a great feeling about Chandler but now that he's a liar to my face, he will not be getting my vote under any circumstance.
It was fun though when he mentioned he worked on Michelle Remples campaign. I said I thought she was a trite b**** and his face looked like I kicked his dog.

By any objective reasoning, he should have been charged criminally for what he did.

The general rule in Canada is that name recognition and the passage of time mean that criminality goes unpunished by voters.
Seems like Wyness is the consensus "not Magliocca" choice, so that's who I'm voting for.

Huh, weird, Chandler lied to me at my door when he was campaigning with Tanya Fir. At least hes consistent I guess...
I dont like the new ward Im in, my community just kinda got tacked onto ward 11 and a lot of my ward candidates suck.

Man sounds like Chandler knocks on a lot of doors. That's a strange hobby for someone who isn't actually running for anything.

Eh? He's running in Ward 12. But even if he wasn't, it's not that weird for campaign operatives to door knock. And Chandler has been a long-time campaign operative for many conservatives.

Ward 9 - help.
Withers or Carra are the only two I think have a chance. Withers is a CSC candidate, no way I’m voting that way.

I think it's "the devil I know" and Carra for me. While I don't particularly love him, I think my neighbourhood has undergone a lot of positive change while he's been in office. At least I can sleep at night knowing he's one vote to keep the CSC crew in check.

I went to Uni with Withers and it's sad to see that she's a CSC candidate because she was smart. I think Carra's got the ward pretty well locked up though.
He has a good record and council is going to need some experience with the amount of turnover.

Yup, pretty much my line of thinking. I don't agree with Carra on everything, but I trust he truly cares about making the city a better place to live and isn't just using it as a stepping stone to other political aspirations.

Craig Chandler would be a HARD no from me. History of racism, sexism, anti-lgbtq, UCP organizer, western separation, kicked out of both the UCP and the Wildrose? Nooooope.
Some fun quotes from his troubled past
Quote:
One of the top campaigners for Jason Kenney’s United Conservative Party says he stands by his claim that the Earls restaurant chain supports terrorists.
Craig Chandler, a well-known organizer and Kenney ally, revisited his controversial views on Earls while trolling an Edmonton-area radio station’s Facebook page over the weekend.
Chandler resigned in disgrace from the Alberta PC party executive two years ago after declaring that “Earls supports terrorists” because the restaurant chain happens to source beef from a supplier that also offers a line of halal products.

Quote:
In 2007, Chandler was forced to apologize as part of a Canadian Human Rights Commission settlement for material that was posted on websites he controlled and for comments he made on his radio show. Among the statements listed in the complaint were suggestions that being gay is the result of a "genetic weakness" and that "God sees murder as equal to homosexuality…."
In 2012, Chandler reacted to the controversy surrounding former Wildrose candidate Allan Hunsperger's now-infamous "Lake of Fire" blog post in an article published in Calgary Beacon News.
"Although the wording Mr. Hunsperger chose could have been more Christ-like what he has said is biblically accurate. The delivery just made me rather uncomfortable," said Chandler.
"We are all sinners and have fallen short, but, for the grace of God are we saved. The lifestyle that is referred to is very clear in the Bible as not an acceptable one, just as a heterosexual lifestyle of screwing around on your wife (is not acceptable).

Chandler came to my door earlier in the year and started the conversation with "We need to get the Socialists out of city council."
I humoured him for the rest of the conversation. Everyone else has already said enough about Chandler's past that it should be enough not to vote for him.
I'll be throwing my vote behind Evan Spencer for Ward 12. He released his expanded platform the other day and for the most part it hits on all the things I'm looking for in a councillor.

He came to my door once upon a time and -- paraphrasing -- said something along the lines of "Can the [Conservative candidate] count on your vote or do you want to keep giving Trudeau your money?" Unlike you, I didn't humour him; I cordially invited him to get him and his six chins off of my property.

Evan Spencer was at my door the other day - seems to be a smart, reasonable guy with a good agenda. Which means he'll probably lose, sadly.
He worked in Shane Keating's office, so if folks liked the way Keating did things, I imagine it would be the same - consensus building, and working for both the good of the Ward and City.
Craig Chandler's folks were confirmed to be putting signs on lawns in my neighbourhood without permission also - so I'll be going for Spencer likely.

I once sat in front of Craig Chandler at a hockey game and he was adamant that the farm team was still the St. John Flames.
So....very qualified to be in government.

My area is getting re-drawn into the new Ward 8 in Oct.
Wooley is not running again, it's a brand new field. The only name I recognize is Gary Bobrovitz from maybe seeing a news story at some point but I haven't watched TV in decades and have no idea what to think of him.
I visited the website of each of the Ward 8 candidates and it's all the same generic stuff. There's a lawyer, there's a business owner from 17th avenue, there's a blue collar guy from Ajax Ontario who can't spell or write properly on his own website and won't get my vote.
No idea who will get my vote.

I'm in Ward 8 as well and so far I'm leaning towards Gary Bobrovitz just because he's been putting in the effort with signs and I've seen his ads on social media so he gets points from me just for that. I didn't really know who he was up until now.
I haven't really seen much from any of the other candidates other than one mailing pamphlet. It's still early but I think it's important for people to get out there early like Gary has done here. His platform does seem a bit generic but he sounds enthusiastic and like he wants to make a difference.

He was the City Hall reporter so at least he knows how City Council works. A lot of these first timers look like they would have no idea how municipal government even functions.

I went thru my ward candidates websites. Most of them are basically a giant 'donate' button with very little substance. A bunch of cut taxes, take back city hall blah blah blah with no plan outlined on how they aim to achieve that.
Thats my question for them, the how. How are you going to be one vote of 15 on council and just magically cut taxes? And who, who are you taking city hall back from exactly. Be specific. Show your work.

I wish these candidates would post their resume or linkedin as if they were applying to any other regular job. They should make a 5000 word bio and platform plan a requirement.
When I applied for a business loan, I needed a business plan with solid numbers and research and details. These people should be required to do the same to run for City Hall.
A lot of them seem like "I am unemployed or need an easy paycheque so I'll just run for office"
