That first round never happened. Erased from history.

So because the Flames have drafted poorly (and I honestly don't think they have recently) it means I, as a fan, can't comment on other teams?
Never understood this mentality. The Flames poor results have no bearing on my opinion of other teams. Do I need to qualify my negative opinions with a "the Flames suck more but" every time?
Not meaning to call you out specifically because you're far from the first person to say something like this. Yeah, the Flames have sucked. Cheering for a bad team doesn't make someones opinions any more or less valid.

Quite the take, especially when many people have been very unimpressed by their recent draft hauls. Just because they've drafted a lot doesn't mean they've drafted better.
You might find some individual "scouts" that like their picks, but every draft model truly dislikes their recent drafts (and loves Calgary's)
https://twitter.com/user/status/1421960958235185155
Byron Bader's statistic-based model has the Flames ranked as having the 6th best prospect pool in the NHL, 3 spots higher than Ottawa
https://twitter.com/user/status/1421117051733610496
Even if Ottawa had drafted better than the Flames, what does that change? We're not allowed to criticize other teams? Lol

Yep. The Flames biggest drafting problem the last 4-5 years has been a lack of picks. They've done pretty well with the picks they've had.

I'm still in the wait and see camp for those drafts. Last 5 drafts we really only have Valimaki who has established as an NHLer. And he still has work to do.
Go back 6 drafts and you have Fox, Dube and Tkachuk. Fox stands out there as an incredible pick obviously.

I think his point stands though.
2017 - 2019 were devoid of draft picks, with 2017 and 2018 the biggest issue in the current timeline with only Valimaki making the grade. No 2nd and 3rd in 2017, and no 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the 2018. That's five reasonably high value picks that could have produced say one more player on the current roster.
But 2019 only has three players in the entire draft with a full traditional season of hockey in them, 2020 has none. So the Flames aren't really behind in any of the last three drafts as of yet.

John Gibson is the best goalie I've ever seen. You'd be lucky to get one goal by him.

Yeah, I still think he's a very good goalie. Anaheim refusing to trade him has resulted in worse draft picks for the team and bad numbers for Gibson.
And now his value is far lower than what it used to be.
But he's still a good goalie.

Agree with devoid of picks point. Jury still out on how they did with the picks they had.

I know. My point was, perhaps made badly, that no matter where he was selected, in a redraft, he would still be a first round pick.

For sure, but Wilson would be an absolute best case scenario for Boucher and his development. The data says that is unlikely.
He’s more likely to develop into a bottom six grinder

Didn't know where else to put this but there was banter about Monahan in this thread. Even busted up he wins puck battles.

Wow there's some real CP darlings on there. Marchand, Farabee, Kyle Connor, patrik Kane. Seems to me that wingers statistically loose more puck battles because they are forechecking (harder to win battles) while centerman numbers are inflated by winning defensive battles.

yeah. look at him hanging with those losers like Kane and Marchand.
in the grand scheme of things, I doubt the stat means much.
I suppose that as long as you have one person on a line that wins most of their puck battles, you're probably ok.

I don't think many are expecting Gaudreau to win puck battles.

The jury is out on all 32 teams (31 for the first two years) for years 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Does this include races to loose pucks, or just stationary battles on the walls?
