The problem with stats is that they can be used to tell lots of stories. If you create a line of best fit on that chart for his career the only real deviant season was his last one, where he allegedly played through some sort of significant injury. To me that gives a good hope that he could bounce back to his career average levels of war on that chart (somewhere between 70-85%)

I think there is a damn good chance for Mony to still hit 25/25 or even 30/30 again in the right situation.
Look I love leaning into analytics, I love fancy stats and trying to understand them more and more and I do think there is a legitimate place for them but at the same time to write off Monahan as 3rd line fodder who will be lucky to score 20 goals based on those charts again is a laughable conclusion to me.

I can definitely agree with the right situation part. Unfortunately, I’m not sure that the right situation for a 60pt Monahan is the right/best situation for the team as a whole. That said, I’m sure Monahan would take on any role his coaches give him if it helps the team win. I just hope he has an injury free season.

Sutter coming in and for a full season with a schedule that will be somewhat normal to what we are all used to levels the playing field again IMO and shouldn’t be taken lightly. This is a roster that is easily better than what Sutter had to work with his first time around and that has me beyond excited. There is a lot of talk about some of our young core talent as if they are over the hill when in actuality they are in the middle of their primes. Add to that the fact that Gaudreau and Mangiapane will be in contract years and a team that is markedly stronger in every aspect aside from the loss of Gio and the stalling of Andersson/Valimaki (again Peters meltdown and then covid was a tough run) than that team that was on fire before the all star break two seasons ago and yea I might just be a little optimistic about the upcoming year.
Do I entertain all the trade fervour around here regarding Eichel and Tkachuk/St.Louis?? I do because I’m a fan and I’d love to see that excitement if it happens for the Flames but if we ended up going through to start the season with the makings of what we currently have I truly feel like the Flames could surprise people. No one is giving them any chance in the main media and around here it’s as if players like Monahan are 4th line plugs on a sinking ship. It’s not even close to being that bad.

The big equalizer is having Sutter as coach, I think almost anything is possible with him at the helm. He kinda singled out "some of our young defensemen" as being disappointing at the end of the season-probably pointing the finger at Andersson and Valimaki, so I think those two will show up ready to go and they'll both have great seasons. Our forwards look better on paper, and we'll have a healthy Monahan, so hopefully we can replace some of the offense from the backend that we lost in Gio.

I also expect that Dube will take a big step.

isn't this like a self-fulfilling prophecy? Mony's best asset is scoring so let's play him with players who can't get him the puck and when he doesn't score then we'll be right?
he won't be playing with those guys on the 3rd line, he'll have Coleman and Bread as his wingers and excel.

Looks like Treliving is going to ride the same core to the end
He is banking on Sutter to right the ship
Big bet

It's a big bet, but also it doesn't mortgage the future. It's so interesting as the Flames need a great start to the season... I don't remember them having a good start to often over the last decade.
Interesting times for us Flames fans.

Absolutely. But the Sens would get exceptionally better offers. They would have zero interest In getting two years of Monny without him proving himself healthy. You'd likely need to add another first round pick.

I would agree, guessing it would be Monahan and two firsts to get Brady. Although sounds like a good acquisition that leaves the center position even thinner than it is already.

I would send Monahan+1st+any top prospect to get Brady. Sign both Tkachuk’s to long term deals and give Matthew the C. Building around the Tkachuk’s playing a Sutter style could make the Flames the top heel in the NHL and just be a brutal team to play against.
Realistically I think Brady is heading to the same type of deal Matthew signed. 3 years at $6M with a quality of offer over 8

Don't know where to put this so I'll put it here. An overview of some UFA's still on the market. Very complimentary towards Michael Stone

Statistically speaking, Brady has been nowhere near as good as Matt was prior to signing the 2nd contract. If he's looking for a comparable amount I think that's where the impasse is.
CGY 76 13 35 48 14 105 3 13 0 0 2 0 142
CGY 68 24 25 49 -1 61 10 17 0 0 2 0 188
CGY 80 34 43 77 14 62 11 24 0 0 2 0 207
OTT 71 22 23 45 -10 75 4 10 0 0 3 1 214
OTT 71 21 23 44 -14 106 2 8 0 0 3 1 259
OTT 56 17 19 36 -17 69 5 10 0 0 3 1 220
His teams have been crap but I can see why Ottawa is not eager to give him 6-7 with a huge signing bonus. I am not sure if he's worth Monahan + 2 assets.

What's the opposite of interesting?
We're running into another season with the same core after being promised changes. This is not an interesting development.
