Training camps open in 3 weeks.
Agreed that we'll see some PTOs, but so far as major trades go? Probably not happening.
I know some folks have said that the off season isn't over etc but realistically the chances of something major have to be slim.

To be clear, by outscore, do you mean goals or points?

Either/ both. I really want to see your signature become an ode to Monahan's greatness among flames.

James Neal is available for top 6 scoring depth!
I'd actually like the Flames to offer sheet Thomas. I think he's got good potential to be a top 6 play driving centre. The Blues will have a tough time matching without making some moves, especially if they won't eat cap on Tarasenko.
Plus, I feel like the Blues are screwing the Flames behind the scenes with Tkachuk so you might as well screw them first. Plus maybe Tkachuk decides to stay after acquiring one of his best buds?

The Flames have about $3 mill with Mackey unsigned.
I doubt Neal would require an amount that the Flames don't have.
The only problem is that I threw up while typing that sentence.

James Neal pouted, walked out on the team, then got moved to Edmonton and was unanimously disliked here by his teammates (aside from Mike Smith I suppose).
He isn't coming back. Give your heads a shake.

The cap space that is already used up? The Flames have 3 mill in cap space right now and need to sign Mackey still.

Flames could make cap space pretty easy if they were bringing in quality

They have $3 million with 7 defensemen already signed.
They likely aren't going to have 8 defensemen on the roster.
When Mackay signs, Welinski's contract probably doesn't stay on the cap.
I can't see Mackay's coming in anything more than $1,000,000. He's probably wrangling for a one way, and the Flames are probably only going to give that to him if he takes $750,000.
So, yes the Flames probably have $3 million in cap space, which might be enough to offer sheet Thomas and get the player.

The problem with Monahan’s rookie season is that it’s 8 years later and he’s the same guy now with injuries
So yes if he shoots at 16 percent and plays a full season he is probably going to get 22 goals. Neither is guaranteed and even if he does I’m not sure that’s worth even the cap hit given his poor play driving numbers

Honestly the absolutes and irrefutable conclusions some of these charts help people commit to are laughable at times IMO… so many variables not being considered too with the past two years being covid gongshows of seasons. Yes… 27 year old Sean Monahan has no chance of ever being the player he was at 18 because computer charts told me so… like that’s a bit much no? I think there is a damn good chance for Mony to still hit 25/25 or even 30/30 again in the right situation.
Look I love leaning into analytics, I love fancy stats and trying to understand them more and more and I do think there is a legitimate place for them but at the same time to write off Monahan as 3rd line fodder who will be lucky to score 20 goals based on those charts again is a laughable conclusion to me.

I think it’s the apologists that are closer to ‘out to lunch’. There’s enough data and sample size on the player to suggest the trend is headed in the wrong direction, and we are likely headed towards fringe 2nd line production unless he gets elite play from his line mates.

I think using the eye test the past 2 seasons on most teams/players should be taken with a grain of salt. I’ve posted before my thoughts on this team and all the turmoil they’ve gone through since the All star break and downward trend of the season we are just two removed from where we put up 5 x 70+ point players and finished 2nd in the league. Disappointing finish that year that was a 180 from the start and I think the Peters fiasco that unfolded the following season tied into that. Throw in a weird covid finish to that year and a weird all covid year the following season and I personally think this roster could surprise a lot of people.

so the guy with the broken neck that scored 2 goals last year is going to return and be a top 5 player in the league?

So if you're downplaying analytics and saying the eye test is iffy the past 2 years, what are you relying on to say Monahan will rebound?
