It’s expensive. It wouldn’t be one of the top 10 overpays suggested in this thread, never mind in real life.
This grossly undervalues Tkachuk. He is a top-20 young player in the world with 2 years of team control. He had an off year last year like the whole team, but if he plays anywhere close to his potential he is worth 9m easily. Heave you seen what 9m buys you on the open market lately?

I've said it before, but again, I wouldn't add much to Tkachuk in a trade for Eichel. You are acting as if he is a throw in. Each to his own, but if you think your view of Tkachuk's value is correct there isn't much to say other than you are wrong. He is Calgary's single most valuable asset, and Calgary is not bereft of valuable assets.

He’s not a throw in, he’s the centrepiece.

And if he’s that good, it’s more than a fair offer for Buffalo, since they can still trade him or extend him.

The return is Jack Eichel. Tkachuk, good as he is, is our 2nd best left winger, and the other guy will probably extend with us if we get him a top-5 centre.

To me, it’s minimum 2 years of control for a LW Vs 5 for a centre.

That choice is clear.

That choice is clear.

I like Eichel, but keep in mind he is damaged goods right now. The 5 years of control could be a major detriment if he doesn't heal properly or return to form.

In my mind the choice is not clear at all.

Tkachuk can't simply choose to be a Blue in 12 months. He's an RFA for two more seasons.

I think he just has to accept his QO after this up coming season and he's a UFA the following summer.

All 31 other teams would kill to have Tkachuk on their team and here we are comfortable trading him away for a washed up Tarasenko or aging/banged up Pareyko...

Wtf am I reading here Jesus, that’s a terrible return

Not that - lots of us are comfortable trading him for Jack Eichel.

If it takes a 3-way trade with St Louis to make that happen, so be it.

I would trade Tkachuk for Eichel and a conditional first in case Eichel doesn’t return to full health. No more add ons from the flames. If the Sabres don’t like that they can kiss my furry flames jersey lol.

If the Flames are in win-now mode as they seem to be, I'd look at a different 3-way trade that was brought up before. Give up futures for Zibanejad from NYR and they can have Eichel, who probably doesn't play much of next season. Couturier's new contract shows a comparable for Zibanejad at 7.75x8. I think the salaries work if NYR retains, and they can while still fitting in Eichel.

To NYR:
Eichel

To Calgary:
Zibanejad (30% retained - 3.745/year for 1 year)

To Buffalo:
2022 1st (Calgary)
2023 2nd (Calgary) becomes 1st if CGY makes WCF in 22 or 23
2022 1st (NYR)
2023 1st (NYR)
2024 2nd (NYR) becomes 1st if NYR makes SCF in 22 or 23 or 24

At forward Calgary runs with:
Gaudreau - Zibenajed - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Monahan - Coleman
Mangiapane - Backlund - Dube
Lucic - Lewis - Pittlick
Gawdin

I don't know it's a slow Saturday afternoon lol.

I like Zibanejad a lot, but I think he would be asking for more than Couturier, at least $9m a season. He was on pace for almost 60 goals and 107 points over a full season in 2019-20 and will probably point to that season in contract negotiations. With only a $5.35m cap hit on his current contact, he'll be looking to get paid for sure.

Am also not sure if he would waive his NMC to leave NY and re-sign here, as he seems pretty big on his other job as a DJ and would probably want to be in a big city.

Maybe 3 depending upon how it plays out
Flames could make their qualifying offer a multi year deal
Tkachuk would then have to file for arbitration
Flames could then accept the two year arbitration award
Keeps Tkachuk for three years.

The agent move leads me to think this will be resolved and it will be done before camp. I think the Flames have as good of a shot as anyone to make the deal work as long as they are all good with Eichel getting the surgery. The Sabres will want to send him west, the Flames should be desperate to make a huge move, and they should be able to get the pieces. I do think a 3 team deal is required with Tkachuk being the centerpiece from Calgary along with our 1st and perhaps another plus.

I don’t see how the Kings make the cap work, the Ducks are in full rebuild, and giving him to Vegas is likely the last thing Pegula wants.

I hope with how long this has dragged out Eichel would welcome a change anywhere and the Flames would represent a win now team with a few of his buddies on the roster.

9M multi years, Tkachuk would sign quick unless he has a fantastic season this year. The same season as last year, he is no where worth that much

It doesn’t work that way. Players who are in their final year Restricted Free Agency are only entitled to a 1 year term. Also, I’m 99% sure that the team will file for arbitration instead of extending Tkachuk a qualifying offer. The 1% is in case he has an absolute monster of a season(more than a PPG).
