The variants come from the morons who won't get vaccinated, as long as they continue to allow this thing to change we might need 20 shots or until they all die...which ever comes first.

Premier John Horgan will be making his first public appearance in a month Monday afternoon at a news conference, where it is expected restrictions for unvaccinated residents will be announced...

The announcement, scheduled for 1 p.m., is also expected to provide details on what a vaccine passport will look like. Castanet will carry the news conference live within this story.

Are they typically all dying now?

I never thought Horgan would be easier to align with especially after the pipeline debacle but wow this move is a smart one.
Alberta is doomed with Kenney at the helm still, I hate politics.

Radio silence from Calgary/Alberta on all things Covid as it pertains to items like this... its disgusting.

I’m wondering are they changing or writing new laws that allow that kind of government over reach saying who does and does not have rights to do particular thibgs.

Seems like a slippery slope. Do you really want that much power in the hands of people that in general are under qualified to make decisions of that nagbitude?

In what way are we doomed. That sounds a little dramatic. Can you be more specific?

BC, like every province, has hundreds and hundreds of pieces of legislation which regulate, restrict and prohibit certain activities. The only authority a province requires to make such legislation is the Constitution Act, 1982.

Here we go with the slippery slope analogy. Please see post #944 quoted here:

NSFW!

No, making these "difficult" decisions to keep the general public safe is not slippery by any means. Because of the significant (25% or more in most provinces) amount of individuals who feel the vaccine is bad/wrong/oppressing etc we need steep measures like the above to help thwart the further outbreaks or "waves" if you will.

If you don't want to get the jab, that's your choice but by making that choice you should be forced to understand that your "freedoms" are going to be severely reduced should you wish to be out in the general public.

No vaccine - No school, no workplace, no sports, no shopping, no public gatherings etc etc. So you can choose to not get the shot, but then stay home, get your necessities delivered and enjoy your personal freedoms in your own personal space so the rest of us can move on and live normal lives.

We need to protect the vulnerable, this is the only way.

Get the shot, its not hard and it not only saves lives but saves long term debilitating side-effects of Covid19.

It is appearing that we will end up with restrictions on everybody, or restrictions on the people responsible for most Covid cases.

Guess what 80% of the adult population thinks is the fair way for that to go?

"I've done my own research"

I'm not a virologist or an epidemiologist. I have no idea what the answers are to this quiz. That's why I trust the recommendations of the experts who have dedicated their lives to this work.

They are trying to save people's lives, meanwhile you have these antivax morons crapping all over their lives work cause they saw some nut job on YouTube spewing hot garbage.

Just asking, but before the vaccine weren't they sayin a lot of people were asymptomatic? Why couldn't an unvaccinated person be asymtamatic now? Has something changed?

Still possible, but less likely due to the high viral load generated by the Delta variant. It's much more likely to cause symptoms, even in those who are vaccinated.

How much safer am I because some pandering politician tells me I can’t go to a stamps game with 12,000 people at it or a Flames game.

I’m betting about as close to zero as you can get.

My point is this is becoming more about political posturing than really doing any good or making the general population safer. My problem and the point I’m trying to make is that erosion of rights generally starts out like this. You need some sort of ticket, or form, or app on your phone to go to an event that you might go to once or twice a year and could live with not going to.

People get used to that so they start transferring the requirement to things that you are required to do frequently like buying groceries or earning a paycheck. With the excuse being well you did it for this so you can do it for that.

Where does it stop? What are the benchmarks where the requirements stop? Or is all of this a permanent change? If there were benchmarks or deadlines I think most of the opposition would disappear. But there really aren’t.

I’m vaccinated and to be honest I got vaccinated because I figured governments would start doing this. Restricting personal rights to move about and be free to do what you want. Not because I felt unsafe or that my life or my family’s lives were at risk.

Whether people want to get vaccinated or not should be up to them. It looks like the majority of people have decided it’s a good idea and have done it. But if someone doesn’t want to they shouldn’t be forced to live as a secondary citizen. It’s not against the law to oppose getting vaccinated.

This topic is like debating abortion. It goes on and on and there are distinct sides who dig their heels in. Hovering above the issue and boiling it down to the base I think the vaccine discussion doesn’t really matter as much to me as the amount of control elected officials have had over our lives for the last year and a half. Because i still feel I should be able to make decisions effecting my well being and in general most elected officials are under qualified to make decisions of this magnitude.

Basically I don’t need an idiot to tell me what to do. I’m able to guage risk and make decisions based on that risk. But I guess some people need that in their lives?

The bolded about sums it up for me.

I got vaccinated because I want keep my family safe and protect those who are vulnerable, if that helps save someone's life then I feel I've done my part.

You're safer knowing that the person sitting literally within 2 inches of you at the stamps game is fully vaccinated meaning the chances of you contracting the virus is extremely slim. This means the next person you come into contact with is also safe, and so on and so on. That's how you eliminate the spread of the virus.

If the city puts in limitations on the 20% who choose NOT to get the vaccine then in my mind its protecting the majority. It's not like they are putting you in some sort of prison, they are simply restricting your access to a mass public gathering where you being unvaccinated is a determent to the rest of the people.

You're confusing getting a vaccine with an "idiot telling you what to do".

Yeah, but Tucker Carlson has a team that did the research and he tells me what I need to know. Stuff that the liberal elite try to keep from us.

I think you misunderstand the primary purpose of these restrictions. They aren't to protect you (or your family) from your acts or omissions. They are to protect other people from your acts or omissions.

In any event, anyone who wants to challenge the government's authority to make these laws or regulations (whether on the grounds that they unjustifiably infringe on one's Charter-protected rights or otherwise) can certainly do so by making an application to the courts.
