Taking a while to get to 5000

So which sounds better, the Houston Coyotes or the Kansas City Coyotes?

Neither. The Quebec Nordiques sounds much better.

Steve Ellman suckered Glendale to build an arena and he would build the surrounding development. Ellman went bankrupt/foreclosed and the rest is history.
Team should've moved in the early 2000's to be honest when the Scottsdale deal fell apart.

I actually think the Phoenix area could work to be honest...problem is I think the franchise and everything surrounding the team is just too toxic at this point for them to succeed there. You can't survive 15 years of these types of discussions.
Best bet would be to move the franchise to Houston, and then if a new building ever gets built in downtown Phoenix then maybe you look at a potential relocation or new franchise moving back there at that time in 5-10 years time.

No kidding. It must be hard to invest yourself as a fan when there are constant talks or suggestions of relocation. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

They should move them to the middle of nowhere.
"The Fargo Coyotes!"
"The San José Coyotes!"
Wait....San Jose already has a team...
"This is the San José in Costa Rica!"
Or my favourite:
"The Decommissioned Aircraft Carrier in the Atlantic Ocean Coyotes!!"

Apparently Glendale has done an economic impact study and it was determined 20 concerts was equivalent to the same tax revenues of 43 coyotes games.
Quote:
Recently, the city requested a study to identify the impact of monthly sales tax collections for retail, restaurants, bars and hotels within the Westgate Entertainment District from attendees at Coyotes home games versus other live events. According to that economic-impact study, which was reviewed by The Athletic, “it would take approximately 20 additional concerts or large other events (with attendance of 10,000+) to equal the same amount of sales tax revenues to the city as 43 Coyotes games” in spending at the Westgate Entertainment District (outside the arena).
“What we think is not being tethered to the Coyotes really allows us to take the asset of the arena and do something really special with it,” Phelps said.

but again, unless the building is already full every night, they don't need to lose the Yotes in order to get more concerts

They should just cut the arena in half and have the Yotes play on one side and like The Wiggles on the other

They're not getting 20 additional concerts with a preferred and newly renovated Suns arena
Why not just fit 20 concerts around the Coyotes schedule?
Pure negotiating ploy

I'm assuming the attendance of Coyotes games would be less than what a potential concert could bring.

And in terms of negotiating with an arena management company going forward, not having to deal with keeping ice in Arizona means those costs are reduced significantly.
It's basically why the Thrashers got the boot as well. Take out a tenant with high operating costs and low returns, and what's needed to replace it isn't 41 events a year.

That team is such a gong show.
Why would an arena kick out it’s main tenant. They must have asked for something ridiculous in negotiations.

I see Disney on Ice there end of September so there must still be ice making of some sort. But you're right, the bigger question is whether the Suns want a building partner.
My honest guess is that this is all posturing and it'll get done in Glendale on a 2-3 year deal to bridge them to Tempe.
