And everyone would grab his crotch instead because that's what people do.

I think statues should be rarer than jersey retirements. And I think those should be exceedingly rare.

If Iggy won multiple Cups then I’d vote him.

Ken King building this org into what it is is a worth candidate for me though. He can shake everyone’s hand as they enter.

My vote would be the famous Lanny/Pep/Hunter hoisting the cup.

Are you referring to the rally after they won the Cup? Wow do I remember that, with Maher replaying the greatest calls from the playoffs (and Lanny's 500th IIRC).

I believe he did accept that sculpture from Hartman, but it was evident how reluctant he was for the personal attention. IIRC the controversy about the statue then came afterwards when it became clear it was a profit seeking venture for the company that made it.

Here is link to the video of the rally. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlL3xrw71g0

I'd suggest that while the Flames have their greats this is a chance to do things right in the new building and set the bar high.

Retired numbers: Only the faces of the franchise of which there have been 3
Championship banners: SC, President trophies and conference championships.
Statue: 89 Cup win

But then have something in concourse that celebrates the history of the team and the great players. A wall of fame or something like it. Just my two cents and they obviously won't unretire Vernon.

Ken king would get my vote hands down. He was instrumental in turning around a fledgling franchise around in the '90's/early 2000's.

Never knew him, but boy do I miss his presence in Calgary.

It’s going to be a hard no from me on statues. This is not a franchise that has a history of winning. One cup when it should have been at least two or three but ownership was too cheap to hold on to the best players on the team…

Picture a bench with Peter Maher and Ed Whalen at either end. If we ever get another legendary voice they can go in the middle.

Steve Smith eliminating the Oilers.

Or Jukka Hentunen sitting alone on the bench thinking WTF during a bench clearing brawl before heading back to Europe.

Love some of our former players and personnel, but I think our statue moment has yet to be written.

JG”s game 7 OT cup winning goal in 2022 playoffs has to be the obvious choice I would think

Don’t you put that evil on my heart. Gimme a 5-2, empty-net-goal with 2:47 left, game 5 win, thank you VERY much.

People talk about the hockey gods. What's the name of the god of the first round? We should be building a statue of him, 'cause we obviously haven't been making the appropriate sacrifices over the past thirty years.
