I don't think anyone is suggesting that players on minimum salary who clear waivers will never amount to much, as there are plenty of examples of players who do, although they are mostly exceptions.
But unless those players haven improved, I think what many are saying is that they don't have much trade value. If any.

Yeah but he played in two seasons before the “rookie” season, including 19 games in the year before.

Forget I said anything, I think I had Stone mixed up with somebody similar.

Oh, I was thinking of Mike Hoffman. But I see he was already mentioned.

I wanted to clarify my comment since my comment is so unpopular. I’m not saying that the Flames are particularly racist or that I know the Flames have discriminated against Kylington on the basis of race. I’m saying it wouldn’t surprise me if either of those things is true because I believe implicit or unconscious biases pervade humanity in general, me included. I think -isms and -phobias are things we all must fight for the sake of a better world, and the Flames may be leaders in that fight for all I know. Treliving certainly did a good job of the Peters’ situation.

You think an organization whose greatest player ever was black is racist? His number is hanging in the rafters and the club has done nothing but praise and admire him. I am not buying it, not at all. Kylington is where he is because he skates good, and nothing else.

I’m talking about implicit rather than explicit biases. https://www.simplypsychology.org/imp...as.html#author.
I think it’s possible some decision-makers may have implicit biases about race within the Calgary Flames organization.
And if that’s true, I think those implicit biases would naturally affect organizational decision-making, even if they affect decisions about different players differently.
Anyways, I’ve dug myself into a huge hole. This is the last thing I’m going to say about this because I don’t want to dig any deeper.

He hasn’t earned anything yet. Do you know how many players toil in the minors and put in their “time”? He’ll get his chance in camp again. If he’s the sixth best d man, then he’ll be in the top 6. Unbelievable

Makes sense, Eichel goes to a team that then flips him to the rangers.

If I’m Buffalo, I would definitely require an overpay from NY if they are getting eichel. Would need things like no protections on first round picks and likely have to add more to the package than other teams. It’s a tough pill to swallow sending a star player to a team that‘s in your own conference, let alone your own state.

I ant the Flames to get Eichel, but if they can't hopefully he goes to the Rangers and somehow the Flames can snag Zibanejad when the dust settles.

I think Kylington can be a good 3th line player or a shut down line player. He is fast, can depend and kill penalty. Has a little bit offence. So in the playoff he can be 7th D who plays 3rd and 4th line.

0% chance he ends up in Buffalo if he is part of the deal with his NMC. I could definitely see the Flames as a team that would be interested in getting him

Who do you view Zibanejad as being an upgrade on?
Bad on face-offs.
Not a play driver.
Very strong production in 18/19-20/21, with a good amount of PP points (28%, 36%, 31%).
18/19 is his best season from a sustainability perspective.
18/19 Shooting %: 12.71
19/20 Shooting %: 19.7
20/21 Shooting %: 14
18/19-20/21:
CF%: 47.85
SF%: 48.35
GF%: 52.19
xGF%: 47.61
SCF%: 48.85
HDCF%: 46.52
HDGF%: 50
From a numbers perspective, Zibanejad is not better than Monahan. Zibanejad also has his 3 best seasons in the most recent years and will be a free agent at 29 years old after this coming season.
I'd slap a buyer beware label all over Zibanejad. I don't think he is a sustainable, notable upgrade on any of Lindholm/Monahan/Backlund for their given roles, and then looking at his contract status it's just a big fat no thank you for me. I think he is a player who played a lot for a generally bad team, but also got to play a significant amount of time in recent years with with players who are better than him at driving play (Buchnevich, Panarin), and prime PP minutes.
I'd much sooner see Monahan on the team than Zibanejad. Sean Monahan has shot under his career shooting % in both of the last two seasons, while Zibanejad has outperformed it (by a giant margin in 19/20).

Zibanejad has an NMC. Why would he waive that for Buffalo
