That seems like a massive underpayment for Monahan. It would have to be White and another asset, and that asset be a damn good one. White is a Backlund replacement, not a Monahan replacement. Also, you're not even saving $2M in the deal, so the Senators have to belly up a lot more than just White.

White & Gaudreau are buddies. Not that it really matters but worth noting.
Also Treliving probably still wants Connor Brown on the Flames

He is 24 and is what he is which is a #3 C. You don't trade Monahan for that.

Treliving must have watched the Matrix Trilogy too many times. Keeps trying to trade for Agents.

Unless Monahan comes back and show he can produce like a good top line center or at least top 6, we are not going to get much back for him
That’s the truth, that many Flames refuse to accept

Literally the only time in Sean Monahan's career that he has not produced at a top six rate was the last 25ish games of this past season where he was playing on one hip. Leave it to Flames fan to use such a miniscule sample size to completely diminish a player's worth.
For some context Colin White has produced less than Milan Lucic over the past two seasons for crying out loud despite playing 15 minutes a night. He's signed at 4.75M for 4 more seasons.. he doesn't play physical.. and he can't win a faceoff. He's the very definition of a negative value asset.
These two players are not even in the same stratosphere as players or assets. There is not a single reason why Calgary should entertain such a deal. It makes them measurably worse in every area.

While Monahan is the superior offensive player, he is a player that plays in 1/3 of the ice. admitedly without knowing much about white, does he bring intangibles that Monahan does not? Is he good on the pk, strong on the backcheck, etc? He’s played on an Ottawa team that hasn’t been good the past few seasons, so maybe his offensive numbers are off as a result?
Given that 960 says we’ve been trying to move Monahan the past few odd seasons without luck (and before his injury this season), other teams do not value Monahan as a player as much as some posters on this board do. If we measure any trade based on offensive numbers, we will lose the trade. But If we get a player(s) back who bring a higher compete/defensive awareness, we may still come out ahead, whether it be white or someone else. For me, Monahan always leaves you wanting more and it is time to move on. Hope the management team believes the same and is able to find a suitable package.

Then I keep him. I think he rebounds, just like the boring guy would do. Back to boring 30 goal sneaky wrist shot self.

I agree, let him establish back his value, because if the Flames try to trade him now, teams will heavily discount his value. His ability to rebound will be 100% health related, as long as he plays with someone who can get him the puck in close.

I'm sure Pinder would personally drive them both to the airport to a new team if he could.

Pinder can drive? Seems like a guy who rides his bike to work, and still has hockey cards in the spokes.

To clarify, Fan960 has stated that the Flames have tried to move Monahan for several years.

There's no way that moving Monahan 1-2 years ago was a difficult feat.
At that cap hit too no less. Maybe they dipped their toe in to see but there's no way they really tried and couldn't find a suitor.

The Flames may have been trying to move Monahan, but I suspect Treliving has held firm on his ask, and he's asking a lot. If Sam Bennett got a 2nd and a freshly drafted 2nd round prospect, then the price for Monahan has been way above that, and probably something that makes teams wince a bit.

Monny was available last year, but Tre didn't like the offers, which are unknown.

I don't believe the cap hit was the issue, Monahan has had several injuries over the last 5 years or so.. 3 season he has had off season surgery
Last off season (i.e. summer 2020), Fan960 had an insider talking about this...
Basically saying the teams would not offer, what the Flames felt he was worth or something like that

Very interesting that this was shared on the official radio station of the Flames. Does this mean that he is one of the pieces in the Eichel deal?
