This is where I'm at too.
Personally I think Eichel is overrated in general, but swing for the fences, please.
Please don't be a playoff bubble team the next two seasons, when there's potential generation stars available in the draft...

If anyone has questions about the surgeries on the table, listen to this podcast.
Listening to this podcast, I could not think any less of the Buffalo Sabres. I hope Jack is traded today. I despise the risk analysis being done by the Sabres in this situation.

This is quite a bit more serious and does pretty much limit harsh exercise.
I had a fellow come into my work and we were chatting it up before I went for surgery and he told me that he had a serious accident and that they wanted to do a disk replacement in his neck. Was pretty rare procedure at the time and could go side ways quick. It ended up going okay and he showed me the after pictures. I never asked how active he can be from that point on however.
Anyway. My personal opinion that a neck disk replacement is pretty serious. Obviously why they are having issues agreeing as what to do.
Edit: rare procedure

A bit off topic, but I'm curious why you said this? I broke my neck in two places, had a cervical spinal fusion Surgery 1.5 years ago and after 4 months in a cervical collar started exercising again. Within 6 months I was back to intensive 90 minute HIIT training sessions virtually everyday. I dont lift super heavy anymore but my strength is close to the level it was pre injury. I also perform some pretty intensive manual labour at work everyday (brick and stone mason).
So I have to question the advice your brother is getting. Or perhaps I need to question my own medical advice...lol.

It says it all when there was a lack of urgency from the beginning to get him into surgery asap.
We've heard horror stories about certain nhl medical staffs and this likely won't be the last.

Oh no problem. He had a lumbar spinal fusion After about 5 months I believe it was, he started back doing his CrossFit work out. He ended up having to go back into surgery as the fusion didn’t hold up. He was told from that point if he didn’t have to then probably avoid that type of workout. Now that could just be more on the cautious side as he doesn’t get paid to do it. Different at the pro athlete level.
Going back to the fellow who came in to my work and talked about the neck disk replacement. Just to be a little more clear,he had it done when it was not so common. He was an older gentleman.

just get it done please. I'd rather swing for the fences and miss than being mired in mediocrity forever.

I'm not sure Flames ownership will be in favor of this deal especially without due diligence on the injury/surgery and the questions surrounding it.
Jack Eichel would be the Flames highest paid player over Tkachuk by $3m and the Flames still have to sign him as well as Johnny. (If neither are involved in the trade)
I don't believe Eichel to Calgary will happen.

I’m at the point where I’d rather see the team invest in what they’ve built over Tre’s 8 year time line and swing for the fences and that’s what a Jack Eichel trade would signify. We have a legit starter, we have a good mix of wingers, have a great coach finally… add that last big piece up front and see what happens. If it doesn’t work out there’s a lot of tradeable assets down the road that would help kickstart a rebuild.

Only spot left for flames to tinker with is center and upgrade SM.
With st Louis trading for rangers Russian and signing Saad - i could easily see them retaining salary on tarensenko plus adding a few great pieces like krou and Thomas. Then buffalo flips tarensenko again and retains more salary.

Wasn't it Roberts who was traded due to a neck injury ? Maybe the flames can finally be on the opposite side and win out on a scenario like this.

Lol that’s just his story. Unless you were told otherwise from your surgeon what not to do I’m sure you are fine. Every individual is different in how they take care of themselves who aren’t a pro athlete…well most pro athletes haha

There is hope there but I feel it's nothing but a fool's hope.
Eichel's doctor doesn't look like he'd shy away from any limelight, though he obviously knows his stuff if he's the guy Eichel and his team have gone to.

I guess since there is no trade to talk about, I’ll chime in. It sounds like a return to activity too soon. I had a lumbar fusion about 4 years ago. I wasn’t able to do much ahead of that, due to the spinal issue, but I didn’t do much of anything for a full year after. No bending, lifting or twisting. My wife would joke that I should make a shirt that said “I’m not lazy, I had a surgery” because she carried everything. It was sort of glorious, now that I think about it.
But in my case it’s been a remarkable improvement. I can do everything that I could before, and have no issues. (Truthfully, what I accept as no issues is some back pain and things like that, but I’m also an aging fellow who played contact sports and I feel that this comes with the territory).
I’ll just add that there was a place in Germany that does the disc replacement. I debated that also, because the mobility is better. In my case I was not a candidate, flat out. I’m not a doctor, and have no idea if Eichel would be, but for me it was a non-starter.
Either way, I don’t think that this issue should scare the Flames away. I know a full recovery can be had and I guarantee you that Eichel is both in better physical condition than I was, and will receive top notch care.
