I think most posters would be more than fine with that. I also think there is no chance at all that happens, given that Buffalo seems intent on moving Eichel for futures.

Buffalo is in an interesting spot.
Really they should have just let him get the replacement surgery right away, have him come back and play a bit, and then trade him after next season before his NTC kicks in.
Instead now this has dragged on long enough that any surgery recovery will eat into next season, the relationship with the team is so fractured that neither party seems to be interested in a return, and the league seems to be balking/hesitant to make a move with his health uncertain.

To counter, he can say what he wants, but he has a contract. I’m sure he’ll play to keep that contract and not be suspended by the team. Would he be as effective probably not. I guess what I’m getting at is the Sabres aren’t being bent over here. The likely timeline is the next year and a half before he’s in a position to come back.

It is not going to take a year and a half to recover lol.

Not happening. There are other reasons to keep Gaudreau here besides his play on the ice. I have no doubt he sells the most merchandise, he seems to be every kids favourite player. He is a likeable guy who gets involved in the community.

It’s not? I thought it was a solid year (the controversial surgery)?

Depends on the surgery and the success of the surgery. This is part of the risk that needs to be determined and possible outcomes understood. To dismiss it is just as ridiculous as to suggest that it's a two year recovery. We don't know because it hasn't been determined what surgery is being done and by what team of doctors.

Recovery to engaging in every day activities. Playing in the NHL would not be considered a regular activity. I'm sure doctors would want to see him take on more training and conditioning to protect the player. I would think an extra month or two would not be out of the question before he was cleared to play again.

right so 5-6 months, not a year and a half.

I am not surprised by the news on gaudreau, I know many don't agree with my opinion, and I'm not saying gaudreau won't end up re-signing, however, I really don't see gaudreau rushing this.
The flames aren't a bonafide contender, there isn't a clear cut core, heck, the direction of the franchise is very much unclear even within a year or so. He also, has had a few down years, perhaps he wants to up his value going into the biggest financial moment in his lifetime.
Tough spot for the flames. However, given that the flames objectives are relatively short term, I'm not surprised that they didn't try to maximize long term return on the asset, given the impact on the short term outlook for the team.

Thanks. Didn’t know that. For the record I think the cost of bringing him in will be too much to muster for the organization. If it involves any combination of more than three individuals or high picks. The prospect and roster depth is shallow as is.

If we get Eichel and extend Gaudreau I wonder which one will go into the corner to dig out the puck. Eichel,,,,,,,,,,to set up Gaudreau? I doubt that and we already know the opposite won't happen. Oh, maybe the puck will never get to the corner!

I'm not sure what team with that much cap space would want to take on two years of Monny (without knowing what he looks like post surgery) and give up young assets.
You are talking about the Buffalo's and Arizona's of the world and they aren't doing that.
Monny could likely me moved for another player who's similar in cap hit and risk. Tarasenko comes to mind.

So Coleman goes into the Gaudreau corner. He must be one hell of a RW.

Coleman, Mang, or Tkachuk (as long as they aren’t dealt in acquiring Eichel)

In this imaginary scenario, pucks don't go in the corner... they go in the net, and usually, the goalie digs them out himself
