They still need to sign Sanheim and Carter Hart, so kiss your $8M good-bye.

I've kind of lost faith in Brad having the cahones to make the big moves that are necessary here.
He's a tinkerer who last made a true shake up trade three seasons ago.
Just way too in love with the core he has overseen since entering the organization IMO.
Looking like he's rolling the dice on the same guys, hoping Coleman, Pitlick and Lewis change their fortunes....
They're not bad pickups, but they don't bump that needle in any way.

Lose faith if he doesn’t get Eichel.
Hold off until that’s for sure happened.

Trading Neal was a pretty big shakeup even if it was a bad contract for a somewhat less bad contract. It was sure a room shakeup. And I count Markstrom and Tanev as big moves.

Fair.
That's a guy that the Flames in their predicament HAVE TO be in on.
If he Mark Stones that, because he was too in love with a prospect that Buffalo wanted, then that's it for me.
If another team outbids them with an offer we couldn't make, then that's another story.

I don’t even think it’s acceptable to be outbid.
Tkachuk, Bread, 1st, Buff’s choice of P/Z.
Get the player. Assets or money, who cares - this is a player who, when healthy, is the presumptive #2C for the American Olympic team behind Auston Matthews.
Who cares if it’s expensive, who cares if he needs to miss 3-6 months with neck surgery. If you honestly consider yourselves contenders, you need him more than you need everything in that package. Treliving knows this.
An Enzo that’s been in a wreck is still an Enzo.

It comes down to price. More than half the teams (I estimate) aren't interested because of cap restrictions, risk of surgery, or proximity to Buffalo, so realistically maybe 5 teams are possible. Who could the Flames realistically let go of, while also fulfilling Buffalo's needs, but also outbidding the other 4 teams without screwing their own future?
I'm thinking the deal would have to centre around Monahan. Because he's not the same calibre of Tkachuk, throw a roster player, Lindholm into the mix. Then add a 1st (protected).
To me, that's the max risk they can take on without completely f'ing their future, but also adding a star. I'm not sure that's enough when it comes to the competition upping their end to beat that, but I think that's as realistic as possible to creating something for their consideration.

If Philly gives big money to Carter Hart after last season, then they are terrible negotiators.

I think one thing that’s got me salty isn’t the lack of acquiring Eichel yet (it has to happen), it’s that Tampa makes the news as they extend Brayden Point on the first day possible.
The Flames haven’t extended Tkachuk (same situation as Point was in), or Gaudreau - yet we went out and spent in free agency on Coleman. Everything just comes across as so short sighted with this team.
There was a pretty significant milestone with Gaudreau and Tkachuk today, and neither has a contract beyond this coming season.

Expect $2.5M and Sandheim is getting closer to $4.5, so 7 total. If you watched Philly at all Hart didn't have a good year, but you can only save so many point blank shots because your defence was terrible.

I personally think Johnny will get an 8*8 or maybe 8.5*8 deal. Im fine with it tbh hes our most dynamic player. We cant afford to lose him. If we get Eichal we HAVE to re-sign Johnny. Him and Eichal would be a great duo.
Im fine with giving up Tkachuk+ 1st and good prospect.

Me also, or Dube, Mangiapane, 1st in 2022 and 2nd in 2023 for me. If you have to throw Tkachuk in then remove Mangiapane.

They are not the same. 1 guy played a big part in winning 2 cups. The other has not.

Tampa is also a prime location for NHL players whereas Calgary is one of the least desirable.
It's pretty easy to sign players when they want to be there.
When they don't, they are going to ask for more.

This is not a significant milestone, it's one day.
UFAs that haven't been extended: Barkov, Coutourier, Zibanejad, Parayko, Forsberg, Bergeron, etc.
RFAs that haven't been extended: Boeser, Dubois, McAvoy, Werenski, etc.
Just the lightest handful of each.
Stop making up imaginary dates of importance, watching the team miss them, and then getting upset about it. You'll be a lot happier.
Point, Gaudreau and Tkachuk arent the only three guys who need contracts. And the Flames arent the only team that went around handling "short sighted" business before signing guys to extensions the first day.
Relax.
