I think, kind of like Reg, he may have more offence in him, but it’s just not second nature. He’s looking to defend instead of risk a point shot. He’s not going to drive deep like Rasmus or even Hanifin.

I’m really hoping Hanifin opens up his game more, takes more shots and joins more rushes. He’s got a ton of tools.

Brad McCrimmon was a machine his first two years with the Flames. His specialty was forcing opponents to the outside, letting them shoot a muffin from a bad angle, and then Suter would scoop the rebound and streak the other way.

On right meow.

Over/under on Francis asking him about the Lucic punch?

Looch is a legend and I get irrationally mad when his name pops up in trade talk.

Mic’d up. Sorry if it’s been posted and someone else free free to embed it properly

If the flames get just 1 don’t touch my Fn goalie moment I’m good with this.

There was more hits on this video than I saw in all Flames games last year. A defenceman that hits, wow.

That pairing would instantly turn this team into one of the best teams in the West IMO.

I really like this deal. I like what Zadorov brings. Couldn’t stand playing against him so I’m glad he’s on our team now.

When I watched Hanifin last season, especially early, you could see him skating the puck more and he unquestionably improved and played great two way hockey.

This season I'm hoping to see more of his shot - a greater confidence in the shot. I think if guys feel they don't have a cannon they can cheat themselves. It's like Brodie, he just never shot the puck which I think showed his confidence in it.

Hanifin needs to shoot more to score - I mean be deceptive with the release, really work on the accuracy. It just seemed to me he shot the puck as a last resort and just tried to flip it at the goalie hoping for tips. Obviously some shots he was able to walk in to and he scored.

It's not too dis-similar to Backlund. Backlund used to do everything right, get in the offensive zone and flip a puck on net. Once he got over playing afraid to make mistakes (confident) he took off.

I think Hanifin could have same thing - just use that shot, improve every aspect of it because overpowering goalies is not as important as getting away a quick accurate shot - with the intent to score.

How am I destroyed?

The Flames have the best defensive D-man in at least the conference and he is only out against McDavid nominally more than Gio. As far as the match-up are concerned Tanev only was matched against McDavid at 54 - 46 to Gio.

I guess the Flames coaches were outcoached and line matched or just didn't see the need to have Tanev out against McDavid.

When the Jets actually shut McDavid down

Morrissey was on the ice with McDavid

Game 1 59% of the time Edmonton home team
Game 2 60% of the time Edmonton home team
Game 3 91% of the time Winnipeg home Team
Game 4 74% of the time Winnipeg home Team

Chiarot against Matthews

Game 5 Leafs up 3-1 74%
Game 6 75%
Game 7 75%

That is what a team does when it has a shut down defenseman

True the Flames did not play any games as important as these games against Edmonton but they should have been trying to get the Tanev match ups at more than 54 %

Calgary against McDavid
game 1 Tanev 74% W 6-4
game 2 Tanev 56% Hannifin 94% L 2-1
Game 3 tanev 35% L 1-7
Game 4 Tanev 51% L 2-3
Game 5 Tanev 57% W 4-3
Game 6 Tanev 73% L 3-7
Game 7 Tanev 29 % L 2-3
Game 8 Gio 91 % Tanev 78 % W 5-0
Game 9 Gio-Tanev 41% W 4-3
Game 10 Gio-Tanev 61% L 1-4

Flames were not afraid of sending Tanev out against McDavid but it was not the overall game play based on having a shut down d-man.
