Nothing like either guy. Faster and better 5v5 than both

Brouwer had terrible analytics

Neal skated like Jagr in a snowstorm and leaned too heavily on powerplay production

None of those red flags are there with Coleman

Yes.

It turns out the rumour was true. Hayes is actually a media member, with ties to the player signing. That feels like a good reason to start a new thread to me.

Terrible, prime candidate for a buyout sooner than later

He was being sarcastic towards the peanut gallery of posters mocking Scorp for making the thread.

This is not a guy you give a 6 year deal. Gross. Handcuffed again.

during his contract.

Let's look at past anchor contracts and when they fell off:

Raymond - 29 (signed at 29)
Brouwer - 30 (signed at 31)
Neal - 31 (signed at 31)
Lucic - 29 (signed at 28)
Stajan - 32 (signed at 30)
Frolik - 31 (digned at 27)

Let's say Coleman bucks the trend and is effective to 32. That's another 3 years of term you need to buyout.

Signing a UFA who turns 30 this year isn't just risky, it's bound to backfire unless you can halve the term to 3 years.
You're petty much just describing the UFA process aren't you?

Pretty much the story for any 1st or 2nd day UFA signing.

Hopefully you get three above average years, an average year, a just below average year and only one stinker.

But teams are all betting on first half of contracts around the league.

At least it's not 8 years and $6M

This is more similar to the Frolik signing than the Brouwer signing

Likewise I imagine the last year to be rough but if that's what it took to keep the AAV under 5, I like it

This seems ok for a player that was rumored to want $6M+

How would you guys compare the Coleman deal to the Hyman signing in Edmonton?

I sure hope Coleman works out for us, especially later in his contract.

Term is long, but cap hit seems somewhat reasonable. Hey, if this group doesn't do it very soon, it won't matter, we'll be in a rebuild.

5 x 4.9 would be nicer than 6 x 4.9 lol.

I think I earlier said 4x4.5 was potentially a win, so this isnt terrible all things considered. I don't love it and don't think Coleman is the difference, but it's no hyman contract.

ugh. Hopefully there's a compliance buyout with the new CBA.

Frolik was 27.
Coleman is 30.

At 6 years, even getting 3 average years is optimistic. As soon as he loses a step he's not the player he was in Tampa. That may well happen in year 1, not year 4.

For the people who think Coleman is a bottom 6 player, could you please explain why you think that? I don't understand. I don't see how Coleman would possibly play on the 4th line and no special teams. Maybe my definition of bottom 6 is different?

One less year and 600k less than Hyman? Not super happy but not upset either. Versatility at all 3 forward positions

Ah I see sureloss confirmed the 6 year term. Shame, was really hoping we could stick it at 5.

I am glad they kept it under $5M but 6 years is long

Zadorov and Coleman are Sutter type moves
