I am not sure how many of the young guys are really pushing and if it is a 1 year deal for most of these guys I am okay. I don’t want to try and get skill guys cheap like Leivo but more Sutterish type players who bring good veteran leadership.

I am expecting he graduates some guys from Stockton that can fill those roles on the cheap while getting valuable NHL experience instead of throwing money away on mediocre vets.

That includes us potentially overpaying for Coleman which would be a disaster.

Who are these role players Treliving has a history of overpaying? Brouwer and Neal were not brought in to be role players.
The Flames can sign Edler and Nate Thompson today, for example, and still trade for Eichel. I would argue those types of signings will not impact the Flame too significantly.

Mason Raymond
A 3rd for Bolig
Frolik though he had a good couple years first
Neal was overpaid for what he brought
Brouwer should never have been brought in at the money we paid him to be something he wasn’t
It’s no secret his biggest issue has been what he does on UFA and apparently he still hasn’t figured it out in the 7 different attempts he’s had. Let see how he does this time around I guess but I’m not holding my breath.

I’m fine with Gudrbrandon, Lewis and Thompson as long as they’re signed to very small contracts representative of their replacement level abilities. I would like to see contracts that allow them to be replaced by youngsters when they are passed.

They went into a “rebuild” last summer. It seemed to last less than one year.

Happens every year when people see good players sign elsewhere, even worse when it's for cheap.
Hard pill to swallow that Calgary just isn't a desirable destination for many UFAs.
Which is why when there's potential for adding through trades I hope we're all over it, and willing to outbid other suitors, even to the point of "overpaying" to get the deal done.

The problem is everyone thinks the Eichel trade is the big saver. There is so many other things that need to get done outside of that remote trade. Where is the defence upgrade as we continue to watch good value defenseman come off the board? Alex Edler…..my goodness.
Where is the addition of a scoring winger? Blake Coleman for $6MM? Pitlick? Brutal management, that’s the bottom line.

Significantly upgraded their defence core, added some secondary scoring, got out of Seabrook/Keith deals, Stan Bowman has had an excellent off season.

Trevor Lewis is 34, there are better options.
Erik Gudbranson would be a #7 type of a dman. However Flames will like his size 6-5 at 222 pounds. This player has a Sutter dman written all over him

Are there any dmen left to sign in free agency? Considering flames need a top 4 dman , Tre is going to have to make a trade for one. Considering some teams have already traded some dmen I’m not even sure what’s left available on the trade market?

Salim Valji is new to covering the team. just throwing names at the wall that he thinks the Flames should target. IMO reading his thoughts and ideas on the Flames this past year doesn't seem dialed to where the team is or where it needs to go.

I'm pretty sure they are going to sign Edler.
